I said if he wants to go. There are plenty of big clubs - not necessarily bigger than Spurs , but clubs that are willing to pay him moremthan us and have a better chance of winning trophies who would .Jump at him

I'd argue he has three or four years at the top left in him because of his experience and shrewd judgment.

All depends on (a) how much more he wants to earn than we can or will pay him and (b) whether like walker he wants an easier path to trophies, something he could expect at the likes of Barcelona, RM, juventus, Bayern, city and PSG.

So you have to fear thetworst.

At the end of the day It's his call.

Was talking to a mate about Smalling the other day. A handful of games for Fulham and then a 10 year career at Utd, it baffles the mind.

Then I realise Jones is exactly the same story! Did he even have a full season at Blackburn before getting the move?

If i remember Jones was played mostly as a DM during his time at Blackburn where he only played a season before Utd signed him.

Apaprently he made 35 appearances over a season and a half.

Started in defence that first half season, then first half of the following season was DM - then was injured until the last few games.

Still, madness Utd went for either of them - for big money at the time as well.
 
If Fergie had a particular weakness, Id say it was in his transfer business. He had more than a few VERY iffy buys...

And I say that as someone who thinks he was one of the greatest ever.
 
That is the problem with transfers they do not always turn out to be good ones. Infact i would imagine that all managers have made bad ones as well as good ones.

He was at a club with so much wealth he could cherrypick.
For ever Keane there is Forlan though!
For ever RVN there was a Varon etc

Of course, thats a given.

Its more about the balance of winners vs losers.

And when you are Man U, able to buy the best, and cherry pick from those around you - there should be far fewer losers than SAF managed!
 
Over the last 2 seasons e have been in a similar situation where we have had the luxury of being able to cherry pick who we want (the fact that we didn't get them is nether here or there) to add to the team as we have had a stable base with no major outgoings that has been able to compete for the top 3.

This summer with potentially Toby and Eriksen leaving we will not have that luxury and we will may have to accept second, third and fourth choices
 
No we havent!

We have been in the rather bricky position of having to shop at Harrods while having an Aldi budget!

We could cherry pick average players all day long, but we are long past needing them.
