Re: Temporary Tim

crazy isn't it.

someone wanting the club to fail just so he can laugh at all of us being ****ed off at another inept decision by our chairman.

No one said the 'want the club to fail'. That has to be one of my most hated soundbites that gets wheeled out on this board.

Looking forward to seeing Sherwood's debut in a real competition where the result is actually meaningful and he's had a bit of time with the players. No idea how it will go, but I will back this manager like I did the last until we appoint someone else.

Re: Temporary Tim

Maybe but I'm sure you can also recognise what an inept decision it were by Daniel Levy to give us Adebayor?

We were warned by Gooners and Emirates Marketing Project fans , that once the ink on the contract has dried, then the level of the player's performance goes down substantially.

How quickly some forget , this is the player who held up signing for us on a permanent, because he wanted to eek out every last penny from our club . Having signed for us on deadline day, thus missing three league games , the fooker turns up unfit .
He had basically been partying all pre-season, whilst all other players in England were getting ready for the new season . And then was it , five goals scored all season in the league and countless couldn't give a feck performances bar the away game to the Chavs ?

Also he stuck two fingers up at AVB's generosity in giving him a couple of extra days off after the ACN by failing to turn up at the airport to catch the specially arranged plane to bring him home for a game. If memory serves me right, would've made him due to injuries the only available center forward to the manager.

It's like we've never heard of backing the manager against a player with a ****ty attitude.

Footballer in bad attitude shocker...

Not sure how you have managed to call Levy's signing of Adebayor inept, if he listened to Chelscum and scum fans I would call that far more inept than looking at his performances and goals in a Spurs shirt and across his career. Adebayor was the right signing to make at £5m, pretty sure Mancini didn't let him train with the first team anyway so how was he going to be 100% fit?

Despite his lack of goals, Adebayor played well last season - half the reason he scored so little was because his entire game was shaped around making holes for Bale to expose. He was integral in Bale's 31-goal season, but of course the 'goals' column on wiki next to Ade's name doesn't account for that. So really he hasn't been a bad signing all in all.

I guess Levy is the spacegoat atm though, the new target of the insatiable manhunt that recently claimed AVB.

Ade is now a good signing ? Okay if you think so, I cant argue with that.

We're now making excuses for him not being fit at the start of the season? I cant argue with that either .

You think he played well last season ? Lol You being serious now ? You cant recall those games where the ball was just bouncing off him and you cant remember those games where he were strolling about ? ... Must be me then .

Woooooooooo he were integral to Bale's 31 goal season. Ade were integral to AVB's one man baled out team now were he ?

Wiki stats ...okies 25 league games , five goals scored and two assists ...

Integral ...gotcha . £100,000 per week , not a bad signing .

From his PREVIOUS club, with whom he had a contract entitling him to it. If he was only interested in money he could have stayed there. There's no way we could have afforded his fee or wages without him putting the pressure on City to make a compromise. This is not an endorsement of Adebayor BTW.

 AVB played no part in his own demise??

Yes you're right . The hold up in his signing for us were more to do with his negotiations with Emirates Marketing Project , I stand corrected .

Although technically this is correct, my understanding was that Ade held out for a lump sum "loyalty bonus" from citey to compensate for his lower wages with us. The point though remains valid. He stayed there until the last second to eek out the maximum financial payment for himself. This was at the cost of staying fit and really wanting to play football. A real mercenary.

Our only hope for Ade this season is that he once more sees this as a " contract season" and regains his form as Mk1 Ade from his first season with us. Fingers crossed.

Pandy, I think you are being very generous to Adebayor. Why do you think Bale had to dig us out of trouble so many times? It was a combination of us having no clue to break teams down and the strikers poor play. I do feel some sympathy after having to watch Soldado feed off scraps this season, but surely if you're going to credit Adebayor for "creating space" for Bale then it would be fair to credit the other 9 players on the pitch for doing the same. Bale himself said in not so many words that he felt like he had to carry us.

I would say at first it was a good move to bring him in on loan as he always impresses in the short term. I would have been pleased if we signed him last season provided we had signed a better forward in addition as he usually burns his bridges at clubs eventually.

The problem is that AVB never wanted Ade as he was concerned about his attitude and potential influence on the dressing room. He was stuck with him. What I find poor is that LAST season, AVB found a way to make him work for the team and Ade did his best despite hardly ever being deployed as a forward! This season, AVB decided in August that his career was over with us. I can tell you I heard a couple of months ago that he was reported to have said if Ade started a match for Spurs then he (AVB) didn't pick the team (I shared this with a few people at the time) and I was thus amazed and hopeful when he came on as a sub against City. Alas, a false dawn. Symptomatic of a problem with AVB, notably that when he needed to, he could not make short-term adjustments to steady ships and allow long-term progress down the line. I have great sympathy for him on many many levels, but equally it is undeniable to me that AVB increasingly did himself no favors, and I think the whole relationship with Ade is a good example.

We discussed this last season mate, AVB realized his one chance to make top 4 was going to come from Bale and as such, he engineered a system which basically saw 10 players serving Bale and whatever he needed. Only in the final few games did he deviate a bit (most notably Chelski away when Bale played the spacemaker and Ade the forward)…that's what I saw anyway. I think it's cheap of Bale to talk about it, there again he's not alone in being caught delivering what he thinks is an innocent comment only to see it spun by the media.

We discussed it but it doesn't mean I agree ;)

Re: Temporary Tim

And you will also know Steff that many of us felt that Bale had to do it by himself and it was nothing to do with AVBs masterplan. To devise a plan which is so reliant on one person in a team game is just daft.

Re: Temporary Tim

Indeed chaps, indeed…well, we will never really know…one thing's for sure. Right now I feel pretty numb about it all. I wish I could NOT hate Sherwood, but I remember too much about him to buy his 'I know this club and it's fans' rhetoric. I am not naive and do not expect all our employees to have been die-hard Spurs from childhood, but his expressions of Goonerism are documented (I'm not talking about this 'tattoo' which I personally think is ********)…but he is one. And he proudly said it not so long ago. Makes me nervous. I know, he's a professional and I'm a supporter, but still…y'know…well…****…:-(

A lot of teams will rely on their star players to a certain degree. Its just that the bigger clubs have more of them. At the moment Liverpool have Suarez and Sturridge (when fit) who are grabbing the goals. Even Rodgers has gone on record to say he believes that without both of them they would struggle. Man Utd have Rooney and Van Persie. When both are injured they look a very beatable team without that star player ability. I would also say that Chelski are suffering from having no forwards who are in form.

At White Hart lane Bale saved us on numerous occasions by getting around the packed defenses with his long range shooting. But away from home we were a much more balanced side. AVB never really did form a plan B to beat the constant packed defense tactics at WHL. And apart from the Liverpool game we always played better at home against the top teams as they did not sit back.

I couldn't care less who they support. Jamie Carragher was a diehard Evertonian before he played professional football, there are plenty of other examples.

Re: Temporary Tim

Lets just wait and see. Fresh start. New slate etc etc.

Come on Temporary Tim get the team playing, entertaining, scoring goals and winning. It could yet all come good. We have some great players a large squad and are still in three competitions. Many clubs would love to be in our situation.

A couple of wins and everything could look a lot different. A week is a long time in football. If we beat Soton and manure, we are back in the hunt. Lets be positive.

We'll just lose to Stoke and West Brom in between. :-"

I don't see how anyone can disagree that AVB devised a system to get the best out of Bale and built thge side around him. Our formation changed significantly over the season, particularly after Look Lennon's injury. We were obviously overly reliant on one player but that is because he was the only world class attacking player that we had and I think AVB deserves credit for devising a set up that maximised his impact.
