Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I really wish the guy would just stop giving all these quotes to SkySports et al; it's like Harry all over again

Dear Tim,

We have two BIG BIG games in the next 4 games, could you just concentrate on coaching the team and preparing the squad and just STFU.

Ta

He's blatantly using the media to try and get a reaction from the players. It might work, it might not.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

what a fcuking mess the club seems to be in though......

If I were him I wouldn't be making too many plans just yet. I'd rather get someone with a good track record and experience in to have a go than replace most of the squad.

I want both to be honest. I want a certain amount of the squad just slung out the door really because I don't see them as being able or willing to take us on to a level where we can compete without being smashed in any big game. The squad collectively seem to have no professional pride although it is probably only a handful of players but it causes me to look at them all in that light.

I would also like a manager who is going to be backed properly by the board in carrying out those actions too.

What because he gives his opinion in the media that means he's not focusing on coaching the team? Ok then....

how many clubs sign 7 players in one transfer window, 7 players all of different nationality too??? imagine the upheaval that causes in a squad. Firstly, the players themselves have to individually get use to PL football and a change in culture, and the players already at the club have to get used to the influx of new personalities. Plus Spurs lost one of the best players in the world in the summer. Selling Bale must have been a hammer blow to the aspirations of the players. They want CL football, they want to win trophies, and yet the team lost an amazing talent that would have helped them achieve that. I really think that this group simply needs time to get to know each other, a full season, a full pre season, no more major changes in personnel, just one or two top additions. Sherwood should shut up and just get on with preparing the team. This is his first job in management, he is damn fcuking lucky to be given this chance, so cut out the media barking and put a team together to beat Benfica!!!!!!

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

TS gave some quotes where he praised to the hilt Aaron lennon, how hard Lennon works, how dedicated and diligent he is etc and because he works so hard its too much to expect goals and assists from him:lol: errrrm, then whats the point in playing Lennon so far up the pitch if anyway the TS doesnt expect him to produce anything. No wonder we are sh!te in attack

Second.

glorygloryeze, I see what you're saying but at least we know, and more importantly, the players know what they're getting. None of this nice, nice sh!t as they've been given all the chances you could ever wish for, call it three-strikes, call it whatever you want, that bunch have ridden their luck long enough and it's time someone, whoever it is, lit a fire up their arses.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I'm really not getting Sherwood now .

It wasn't so long ago he was telling everyone how happy he were with the players and no new faces were needed bought in during the January window.

Oh yes , we've lost a few games, games he said we could afford to lose and still make top four .

So what's changed ?

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

TS has probably told Levy the players he wants to keep are Walker, Naughton, Dawson, Fryers, Bentaleb, Townsend and Lennon. The rest for sale, and amongst the ones he wants to bring in are Butland, Jagielka, Milner, Rodwell, Ince, Lambert etc

"Until you’re in the job as a manager, you don’t appreciate Aaron Lennon.

What he does out of possession probably makes him the best defensive player we have got on the pitch. He is so diligent. He recognises when to thicken up and when to put pressure on.

Aaron knows full well he wants to have more end product – maybe a different area of the field might benefit him."
................."But I’m certain that when you need to rely on someone, he’s on your teamsheet. He gives 100 per cent in every game and leaves nothing on the pitch.

He is such a physical specimen. For a small lad, his high-intensity runs, he gets back in, his desire – when you’re asking him to do all that, to then start saying ‘we want 20 goals or 15 assists’, it’s a bit much.

There is a balance, but when you’re looking for reliability he’s on your teamsheet.”

Probably nothing. Just the realisation by TS that he really might have bitten off more than he can chew with the job and he's trying to deflect ALL blame for any poor results now onto the players so that he looks good when he has to apply for other jobs in thge summer

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Says he thinks he'll be here for the long run.

From the Guardian.

Tottenham squad are all playing for their futures, warns Tim Sherwood

• Coach planning for next season after meeting Daniel Levy
• 'I'm going to shoot from the hip. I'm a manager, not a babysitter'

Press Association
theguardian.com, Wednesday 12 March 2014 15.14 GMT

Tim Sherwood insists all of his current squad are playing for their Tottenham careers and is not bothered if he upsets the players, declaring he is "a manager not a babysitter".

Having blasted the character of his side following their 4-0 defeat by Chelsea on Saturday, Sherwood oversees two big games this week as he welcomes both Benfica and Arsenal to White Hart Lane.

The round-of-16 Europa League first leg against the Portuguese league leaders Benfica takes on an extra edge given Spurs are now four points off a place in the Premier League's top four.

But, with fierce local rivals Arsenal to come on Sunday, Sherwood has urged his players to prove they are worthy of a place in his thinking beyond the end of the current campaign, as the manager continues to play down speculation about his own future.

"They know how I am and how I felt about what happened," Sherwood said when asked how his players responded to his post-match comments.

"We are moving on, you can't dwell on it. They are all men, they all appreciate that I am singing it from the heart, not from the script – I'm not an actor, I work on impulse.

"I'm never going to take a step back. I'm just going to shoot from the hip. That's what I'm like. I'm a manager, not a babysitter.

"A lot of players here are playing for their future and I think they realise that now. I'm going to have a good look at the whole squad and see who I need to keep and who I need to bring in.

"They have that chance between now and the end of the season to prove they want to play for a giant club like Tottenham.

"I want players here who want to play for the club and they have between now and the end of the season to show that they are playing for their club and not for themselves.

"I don't think at any football club a player should be doing them a favour by playing for them."

Sherwood said he had spoken to the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy following the disappointing result at Chelsea but that discussions focused only on "how to take the club forward next season".

With names such as Louis van Gaal and Frank de Boer constantly linked with his job, Sherwood maintains he is the man entrusted with getting Spurs back into the Champions League having only replaced the previous incumbent André Villas-Boas in December.

When asked if he had spoken to Levy, Sherwood replied: "There was no sit down meeting, nothing more than what I normally do. I've seen him a few times.

"I'm planning for next season. There's no point me planning if someone else is coming in. I've not asked for any assurances. I've an 18-month contract and I expect to be here a lot longer than that.

"It [the meeting] was all about pre-season, who do I want to keep. A lot of these players here are playing for their future and I think they realise that now.

"I'm going to have a good look at the squad and see who I am going to keep and who I am going to bring in.

"They have a chance between now and the end of the season to prove they want to play for a great giant of a club like Tottenham."

While admitting new faces are likely to arrive in the summer, Sherwood was keen to stress he would not be writing off any of the current crop just yet.

Asked if he would make changes to the squad, Sherwood said: "Without a doubt – there always will be.

"Everyone gets a second chance. I am never ever going to burn bridges with players. They are asset to the football club.

"They have an opportunity to respond. It's out there now, they know what's required. It's not about going 1-0 and then going and playing well, it's about in adversity who wants to roll their sleeves up.

"It's a level playing field from the kids to the money signings. No one is going to get preferential treatment just because of a price tag.

"It's about what they are doing on the pitch. I am seeing them every day. I know the DNA of the guys, and I know the ones I can trust and the ones I can't."

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Sherwood's comments and stance during the transfer window could be seen as using it to win over the squad, he'd only just arrived as manager and stating to the press that he was happy with the squad may have gone some way toward them accepting him and his ideas. Now things have changed, they either are not playing for him as they believe he'll be replaced in a few months or they are not showing the right attitude and professionalism Sherwood expects on the pitch, either way calling them out on it in my opinion was the correct thing to do.

He's now made it public that they are all playing for their futures at the club, after Saturdays comments I expect Sherwood has already spoken to Levy and this message has been agreed upon. My thoughts are that Sherwood will be replaced in the summer but his role at the club will not be over, so any player thinking they needn't worry as a new manager will be arriving will be in for a shock.

Begin the culling! [-o<

But even if the cull is the right thing to do in the summer , right now, we still have so much to play for to be coming out with all this.

I just don't recall Wenger saying similar, after slipping seven points behind us last season in the chase for top four or did I miss that ?

There's managers in the bottom eight - ten, looking over their shoulders at the relegation trap-door and they're not coming out with all this stuff.

What other manager or chairman, comes out with this type of nonsense, Cardiff maybe ?
