Thomas Lemar: Tottenham offered chance to sign Atletico Madrid outcast on loan this month
French international is keen to move in January after falling out of favour under Diego Simeone
Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a loan approach for Atletico Madrid‘s Thomas Lemar with a €60m option-to-buy.

The Independent understands a loan fee of around €6m is being touted to bring the French international to north London, with Lemar keen to move in January after falling out of favour under Diego Simeone.

Spurs are just one of several top European clubs weighing up a move for the 24-year-old, with Arsenal also monitoring Lemar’s situation.

Lemar, who came close to joining Arsenal in the summer of 2017, has scored just three goals in 64 appearances since joining Atletico from Monaco for £52.7m.

Atletico manager Diego Simeone has made little effort to quell speculation that Lemar could leave the club in January and recently admitted the winger has failed to “live up to expectations”.

“If Lemar can stay or not... we know that agents work in an exemplary way,” Simeone said in a recent press conference. “Clubs work in terms of the needs of the clubs. But, as a footballer, every time he has been available, he’s played a lot more than he hasn’t played.

“His characteristics have always excited me. But he hasn’t been able to live up to expectations.

“Let’s hope he has a good moment when he comes back from injury.”
 
As I understand it, this is either Atletico or his agent trying to drum up some interest by leaking these stories to the press.

Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid winger Thomas Lemar this month. The Blues are keen to spend this month after having their transfer ban lifted. Frank Lampard is eyeing a winger and a forward before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

And according to the Evening Standard, Lemar could be Lampard’s first signing this month.

They say Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Lemar from Atletico Madrid after the winger failed to make an impact in Spain.

It’s claimed the Blues would have to pay a £5m loan fee, with Atletico hoping to agree a permanent deal for around £50m.

However, the Standard add that Tottenham could scupper Chelsea’s chances of signing Lemar.

They say Spurs are eyeing a move for Lemar this month, with Jose Mourinho said to be an admirer of the winger.

Lemar has struggled to impress under Diego Simeone at Atletico this season, with the 24-year-old netting just once in all competitions.

Chelsea are also in the market for a new striker. Lyon’s Moussa Dembele is a target for the Blues this month.

However, Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas revealed this week that Dembele has no intention of quitting Ligue 1.

“We are not in a dramatic situation. It is difficult in terms of the content of our football but we are still in all the competitions,” Aulas said.

“We are going to try to strengthen. Our first reaction is to look to the youngsters in the academy who are playing and showing more.

“The second is to sign players. The board has decided to do it but not at any price and not at all costs.

“We will only do deals that correspond with what our Sporting Director, board members and manager want.

“They are not pieces of good news that are coming from Spain, but they are pieces of news… Moussa Dembele will not leave because he wants to stay to win something with Lyon.

“There have been offers for him and for other players but none of those that we want to keep will leave in January.”

Chelsea are back in action on Saturday against Burnley in the Premier League.
