Can see the argument that if he wants out sooner or later, doesn’t want to sign a new contract he may not be the best choice.Romero just lifted a European cup as captain. If he's not made permanent captain, someone's overthinking it, or he's off.
Nothing wrong with a practical/pragmatic approach.Anyone else get the feeling that Frank is going to take a very practical approach to season 1 with us? The emphasis will be on sorting out our defensive record after conceding over 60 goals for 2 seasons. I have a feeling Frank has seen enough in pre-season with the existing players to know that we're not yet designed for high possession stats and passing out slickly from back to front. Injuries are part of this equation. Instead I think we'll see more direct play and we'll see pace used for counter attacks and running into space. That running into space might look like chasing lost causes at times but will be a tactic to keep the opposition away from our goal. The work rate from the forwards will be key to Frank's system. So will their individuality and ability to do amazing things. They've all got it in them to be fair.
I'm expecting these tactics to evolve over time though. May not be this coming season though.

We've seen in preseason how we can score from turnovers. We'll probably be a good threat from set pieces.
But for that to work reasonably well I think we also need that ability to play through pressure. When in possession deep and when we win the ball when defending deeper.
Not having a lot of possession isn't a big problem at all. Not posing a fairly regular attacking threat when opponents press us high or when we're defending deeper is a major problem imo. To do that we need to turn possession under pressure deeper into good attacking moves.
Yeah, I'm not sure how much we know yet how important Solanke becomes for the reasons you talk about. In some ways, I think Scarlett may become more useful than Richi in Frank's system if he sticks around.
Kulu would be my choice but him being out for a bit changes things.Romero will be captain
I think Solanke will be very important. He's one of our best holdup players (along with Kulusevski, maybe Kudus?). He's well rounded and can operate in several different ways as a striker imo. Giving us versatility that we'll probably need with Frank likely to be tactically flexible.Yeah, I'm not sure how much we know yet how important Solanke becomes for the reasons you talk about. In what sense? Seems pretty standard to me, I don't know many managers would would put up with that. Not to mention he was likely being sold anyway....Huge power move on the Bissouma action, fair play to the bloke
In the sense I think its a great standard to be set by the manager...........I applaud him for it and I applaud him for not pulling his shots publiclyIn what sense? Sums up the player, has all the ability in the world but never consistent and seems to be an incident like this every season or so
Fair play, I honestly think most managers would do that for a player who we probably want rid of anyway and has done it a few times clearly taking the P.In the sense I think its a great standard to be set by the manager...........I applaud him for it and I applaud him for not pulling his shots publicly

This might encourage me to watch Frank's media beanos if he continues to have something interesting to say.
He does come across well in the media for sure. Will be interesting to see how he copes under pressure because he will be under more scrutiny than he ever has been previously. But so far so good...This might encourage me to watch Frank's media beanos if he continues to have something interesting to say.
My impression so far is of a level headed calm manager who knows what he’s about and won’t take any brick. He does come across well in the media for sure.
