Paul Cannoville at Chelsea (from his own 'supporters'), Clyde Best at West Ham, our own Hughton and Crooks, you are so sadly right...I do agree with you, i am old enough to have seen players like John Barnes have bananas thrown at him every time he got near the touch line, Its always been there and sadly always will.![]()

I recall an England game, v San Marino I think, where he got booed by his own fans and the accepted view was that it was racially motivated. Was absolutely disgusting - I couldn't make sense of it even then as a 14 or 15 year old who hated Liverpool with a passion.I do agree with you, i am old enough to have seen players like John Barnes have bananas thrown at him every time he got near the touch line, Its always been there and sadly always will.![]()

It’s the best in the world but obviously still has scope to improveI recall an England game, v San Marino I think, where he got booed by his own fans and the accepted view was that it was racially motivated. To be fair, I think the English game is far, far better for that sort of thing these days than most leagues on the continent. When you see some of what goes on in places like Italy and Spain, you do have to scratch your head.

Yeah, I remember being in Bulgaria more recently with England and experiencing a culture of racism. I think it was Mings who ended up having to talk with the referee and invoke the racism protocols in the game.
With Spurs, I'm proud that we built all those microphones across the entire stadium. When we had the Rudiger thuggery incident on Son we just handed all the audio files over to the Met Police and they did the rest. Whatever you think of the Rudiger incident, it's fair to say that those microphones are a fantastic deterrent to fans when they're on our premises. Those guys like Barnes never had that.
YepRacism is still very much there, the big difference and the reason we don't get such overt displays as in the past is the majority are more willing to challenge it than they would have in the past.
Try throwing a banana now and you'd be quickly shopped, at best, more likely you'd get a few rapid to head and handed over to a steward.
Same over here. There’s a real poisonous mindset developing around immigrants.I don’t think it’s worse than 40 years ago, but definitely worse than it was 20 years ago.
Brexit gave many an excuse to turn their filter off.
We have some real scum in this country.

Don’t get me wrong, while I’d probably advocate for more open borders than most, there is a very credible argument for managing immigration much better. I’ve no problem with that argument at all and it’s a discussion well worth having.
What I do take issue with is every ill in society being blamed on foreigners or every single incident being used to bash immigrants. It’s poisonous because facts aren’t being considered, the narrative is being shaped by prejudice.
