The youth players/on-loan thread 2014-2015

So where has he been playing for Brentford? Seems on the cards that he'll be in our squad next season which position do we imagine he'll be used most in?

Cutting in from the left, he is right footed. They a 4-2-3-1 type of system. He didn't track back brilliantly in that game though.

Pritchard probably could've been a squad player for us this season, but in all honesty I think his development has been best served by this loan at Brentford. He's getting a season of competitive football playing in the same system that Poch would have him in, without any external pressure to perform. He's obviously got the drive needed to push himself up into the first team, which is what we want to see. From all of his previous highlights, I'd say he's a challenger for the RWF position of #10.

From what I've seen primarily in a central #10 role, sometimes a more box to box role out of a midfield 3. Last game I watched the last half an hour and he played on the left, that's also where his goal came from in the first half.

For me those look like his most natural positions, a bit like Eriksen.

Holtby would be ripping up the Championship, and we sent him away.

Same with Lennon.

And Sigggurdddssson.

I hope Pritchard is the real deal, but he probably isn't better than them lot.

Mind you Chadli and Townsend are probably better players but for some reason they aren't effective for Spurs.

I assume most people are hopeful that he will not only be as good as he has been this season, but also push on and improve from here. That's where some of the other players you mention have struggled.

Only watched the last half an hour, thought his tracking back was fine. He was certainly tiring, along with just about everyone else on the pitch. But he trotted back just about every time to get back into position when they lost the ball. Not quite Eriksen/Kane/Mason type work rate, but compared to Townsend and Chadli I imagine he's working at least as hard if not harder. Some time with Pochettino and hopefully he'll do even more.

From what I've seen he's also very frequently been finishing games for Brentford, or subbed very late when he's been subbed. Don't think that would be the case if his defensive work rate was really a big issue as some (not you) have suggested.

Another player (like Mason) who I almost gave up hope on, but evidence that our loan system works fantastically. Really interested to see how Pritchard fits in next season, if he isn't loaned to a PL side.

that was a cracking finish. On the half volley with a defender closing him down. Always like to see a young player with a good shot on him. That can only get better.

I see the U21's lost to their Liverpool counterparts 3-1 today in a match that saw Capoue make the starting XI. It looks like both coaches sided quite young sides, although Ehiogu's side did feature a few 17 year olds.

Reading again today that Alli played a blinder and scored a beauty of a goal. One report described it as a "sensational curled effort from 25 yards that pinged in off the post", can't wait to see it.

Can see them both getting in the first team next season. Pritchard, i imagine would be playing on the left with Alli hopefully partnering Bentaleb.

How many loan players can a championship club have from the same premiership team? We should have chucked a load of our youngsters at Blackpool free of charge.

Will be Young Player of the Premier League next season.

Blackpool? You're kidding?

A key aspect in our success with loan deals in recent seasons has been finding the right clubs for these youngsters to go to. Teams that play football that suit them, like Mason and Swindon and Pritchard at Swindon then Brentford. They need to go to a club with a functional manager and system where they fit in and get regular football at a good level. Would much rather see players in a well playing League One team than some dumpster fire Blackpool side. And I think our players that aren't good enough for a good League One loan should rather stay and learn under working our coaches at our world class training ground rather than running around for a team lacking in absolutely everything like Blackpool.

We've seen way too many wasted loan deals over the years to send someone to a club in crisis like Blackpool.

What i am saying is depending on how many we could send to 1 club we could have had half of that blackpool team as our loanee's which at that standard would be great for their development.

Not entirely sure about the limit for the number of players. I think it might be 4, but not sure.

Disagree about that necessarily being great for their development. The step up from the U18/U21 level to the Championship is significant, making that step too soon is not great for development. Sending a bunch of our players there would be very close to setting them up to fail I think.

There has to be a natural progression, and there's a lot young players can learn on the training ground as we've seen with some of our break through players in the last year and a bit.

Thinking about our young players and whether they will get playing time next season got me to thinking that loaning some of them to Villa like we did with Kyle Walker will do us really well. Its not a massive move away for them, Sherwood knows them and likes them and Villa dont seem to have much money so taking on some loans works well for them.

Pritchard and Alli ( although I realise Sherwood did not work with him ) could do well from being loaned there. Minimal pressure. Maybe Fredericks as well.
