the Tim Sherwood man love thread

I'd imagine Sherwood's friends in the media will do their level best to slate Randy Lerner at every opportunity now. Jamie Redknapp has previous for holding other people's grudges

Shall we do Sherwood-related-dig-bingo?

I'll start: In the next week, especially if Villa lose by 3 goals or more on Sunday, Neil Ashton or Martin Samual, will write a piece detailing how poorly Villa are being run and that since Randy Lerner put the club up for sale he has used managers (like poor ol' Timmeh) to cut costs whilst distracting the clubs fans from the mess that he has got the club in. They might even add a sentence or two about how Lerner like many other owners "don't want to have anything to do with English managers like poor ol' Timmeh cause he says it like it is and wont toe the corporate line like the foreigners do"

Tim as pundit for the NLD, stating how he gave all our players their chance, and you can't expect to beat a team with top top players like Arsenal.

Apparently linked to Fulham and QPR. A massive no from both supporter camps. I really feel for them if he goes to either of them...

Hmmm....in his Arsenal top?

But also saying that he was proud that he recommended that the club buy Eriksen when he saw him play for Holland against England at Wembley..
Did he really say that about Eriksen playing for Holland??? and here was me thinking he was Danish!

If Sherwood is serious about management a job in the Championship or even League One is pretty much spot on at this point. He jumped way ahead in the line of managers by getting our job more or less as a caretaker. I don't think any PL club would have hired him before that. And he only got that job because of the situation with AVB and Levy's main targets not being available mid-season.

Could easily see him try to sell a story getting credit for our current success as he was instrumental in his role as technical director and go for a technical director or DoF position somewhere though.

For all of his flaws, he did promote youth like Bentaleb. AVB could have easily done the same but that would get in the way of the crazy theory that Sherwood was hiding them away from him. I would not want him associated with the club again, but he will never get any credit from certain quarters even for the some of the positive factors of his very brief reign.

The championship or league 1 is about his level at the moment I would say, do what Hughton is doing and rise up the table with a non PL club. I do agree he really needs to keep quiet for now but I highly doubt it's possible for him to do that.

I think he is on a deflate. He will end up a media monkey now unless he has a punt at lower league stuff. His rep at the top has been shown to be emperor's new clothes.

No different than Carragher really is it? Or Michael Owen or Steve McManaman. Even if Kane REALLY is a gooner deep down I couldn't give a brick provided he keeps banging the goals in for Spurs.

The wider footballing world seem to have woken up to him being a charlatan. I'm not surprised Fulham and QPR fans don't want him, as he is tactically naive and dismissive of any criticism, often to the detriment of team morale. I read he had said this week that he didn't have the final say on transfers after claiming he did all summer long.

That said I miss his interviews. He invented the word 'factsies' and should be applauded for that.

I agree that he deserves more credit for that than he's getting from some of our fans, though nowhere near as much credit as he himself seems to think he deserves for it. The way AVB didn't use Bentaleb even as a squad player in EL games that were essentially meaningless remains one of my clearest sticking points with him after it became obvious just how talented Bentaleb was/is.

To be fair to those giving him no credit ever it seems a more solid opinion than the opinion that he should have kept his job past that half a season where he was (imo) our caretaker.

He talks himself up way too much agreed.

The truth is somewhere in between, I didn't want him to continue as we always started slow in games despite being better to watch and scoring more goals and mainly due to his inexperience. But he got more or less the same results as AVB did in that season without spending any money so he really can't be that bad.

I think he will turn out to be a manager who will bounce around clubs, keep getting sacked but will always be offered a job by lesser teams. A bit like Warnock and the likes.

I think he's got two more jobs in him, one in the Championship, where he'll fail again, then one lower down that'll be the end of him. Then he'll be back on TV moaning about English managers not getting a fair chance.

He gave Bentaleb his debut. There's no silly link that disproves that Scara. We also instantly looked better going forward and started to attack with more players in the box. I'm not saying we should build a statue for him, but we've had worse managers.

He gave ONE player his debut, mostly to show he wasn't like the man that had the job before him. What everyone ignores is that Bentaleb had been involved under AVB as well. Played in some pre season friendlies and named in match day squads. He wasn't picked from obscurity by Dimmy and his performances that season just showed that Bentaleb wasn't really ready for first team football.

Academy players used by AVB: Adam Smith, Andros Townsend, Jake Livermore, Ryan Mason, Tom Carroll, Jonatan Obika, Steven Caulker, Harry Kane, Coulthirst. He even played Fryers just as much as Sherwood did.
