Lots of stats to dig into in this thread
There are a lot of them about and most of them are not worth the paper they are written on.I guessing that it means we have managed to keep the ball and move it over 75% of the pitch won’t losing it, so in the final quarter if the pitch..
It’s why I see Ipswich and Southampton up there too
But I’m probably wrong and it’s another state for the sake of it
Well they are, but not in isolation. But for analysing games, and working out different tactics, and what players fit which tactic and style, they are valuable. But you can't just look at them individually. Using them in a suitable manner is a big part of how the game is evolving. There are a lot of them about and most of them are not worth the paper they are written on.

I wouldn't dismiss it, if it's factual correct, and contains enough data points to make it statistically correct. Not going to have a big discussion on stats[ my work in the game used stats so i know they can be useful] However IMO they are a lot in todays game that are just full of flimflam.

Actually it shows how many passes the opposition can string together before we win the ball back. The lower the number, the better. This is actually a great stat… if we score
Because it highlights we pass more than anyone attack wise, before they can get the ball
But it means feck all without the goals

The fact that on this and a number of other stats we're top shows that were doing a lot right, at least on the offensive side. Just need to be more clinical and cut out giving away cheap goals.
Doesn't take negative actions into account.
Looooadsa stats in this thread. Don't be put off by the stupid first chart.
The Big Question about Spurs' Underlying Numbers So Far
And what I think I like to bathe in custard.profspur.substack.com
If Carlsberg did the final league table, Arse would finally finish above City, only for us to pip them for the title.Yep, quick highlights in there (direct quotes)
- Spurs have the 4th highest xG so far, ahead of Villa, Chelsea, Brighton, Saudi Sportswashing Machine, and Arsenal
- Spurs have the 5th lowest xGA so far, better than Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United. That’s right: Arsenal’s ‘best defense in Europe’ has yielded a higher expected goals against thus far in the Premier League than Tottenham’s ‘risky’ ‘naïve’ ‘high line.’
- Putting this together, Spurs have the 3rd best xGD in league so far, behind only Emirates Marketing Project and Liverpool:
- Spurs are controlling games with possession, 2nd in the league, behind only Emirates Marketing Project (who's are skewed by the 45 mins of dominance against Scum's 10 men)
- Spurs have also taken the 2nd most shots and the 2nd most shots on target (again, behind City in both categories, who just had a massive outlier performance in this category as well against Arsenal yesterday). Shot quality is also improving; Spurs are tied with Arsenal and Emirates Marketing Project for 7th best non-penalty expected goals per shot (chart courtesy of Fbref.com):
-Spurs are 2nd (again, behind City) in shot creating actions (SCA) and 1st in crosses (charts courtesy of Fbref.com):
- As of now, Spurs are 2nd in the league in touches both in the opposition final third and in the opposition box (second to City in both categories)
- Spurs are also 3rd in the league in expected threat, a measure of how threatening is the territory you occupy with the ball (while allowing the 6th least expected threat)
- Spurs have been very good at controlling the game with possession and territory. I don’t mean just pretty good; I mean in some cases we’re an extreme positive outlier in these categories. Spurs are sustaining possession not just in their own area or in non-threatening areas, but above 75% of the pitch
It's quite interesting, all interpretation but the underlying data does seem to indicate we are performing in line with the best teams in the league across the vast majority of metrics

I mean, if monkeys can write Shakespeare, surely we are due something like this happenning within the next 50.000 years or so?

Most newer xG stats take that into account. Is there a stat that shows the number of players between the ball and goal?
If anything xg and all the new stats seem to justify that the closer to goal it is easier to score but ignores how well organised the defence or how predictable the attack are
Lighten up - just doing my best.. funny
