@sportingintel: Atletico's title by far the biggest upset in Europe this season. This from 2 Aug last year: odds got it right, mostly

Well done to Atletico Madrid for winning their first league title since 1996. They really deserved it as they had been the most consistent team in Spain this season. It is always a welcome break when the underdogs upset the big teams and wins the league or Cup. It must be really boring for other teams in Spain, when Real or Barcelona wins the league year in year out. Ofcourse, it had been even more boring in England when ManU used to win it alone.

Really glad Barcelona didn't win. If they had won, it would have hide their many weaknesses of their current team, particularly the manager. They were really stupid to appoint a manager like Martino who have only managed in Argentina before. Maybe they wanted to make Messi happy by appointing a fellow Argentinian. But instead, his inexperience of managing a big team cost them the league title. Maybe they will be more careful when appointing their manager next time.

Valencia takeover completed by Peter Lim

The Singapore tycoon will make €60 million immediately available for transfers, while investing €100 million for his shares in the club
Valencia have confirmed Singapore tycoon Peter Lim is the club's new owner after he completed the purchase of a 70.4% majority stake in the club.

The debt-ridden La Liga side were the subject of several other offers from international consortiums but patrons of the Valencia Foundation, who owned the portion of the club bought by Lim, voted in favour of his proposal.

The president of the foundation, Aurelio Martinez, has revealed that €60 million will be immediately be made available for the purchase of new players, while Lim has invested €100 million into the club for his shares.

He has also pledged his commitment to completing the building of Valencia's new stadium, Nou Mestalla, by 2019, when los Che will turn 100-years-old.

However, Lim's first pressing task will be to negotiate the repayment of the club's debt with Spanish banking conglomerate Bankia before the May 27 deadline.

Valencia's current level of debt is reported to stand at €275 million, which has forced the high-profile sales of Juan Mata, David Silva and Roberto Soldado in recent years.

It'd be good for La Liga if Valencia can also compete on the same levels of Atletico next year.

Llagostera fan racially abuses Koné - MARCA.com (English version)

Racial insults and taunts continue to occur on a weekly basis in Spanish football. The latest case involved the woman in the footage, a fan of Llagostera, who play in Spain's Second Division B.

In front of several children, she danced like a gorilla to offend Racing Santander's striker, Koné. The player preferred not to retaliate via Twitter, instead just tweeting "she showed herself up."

Always had a soft spot for Valencia, seem to me to be the spurs of la liga.
Always looking to move into a new stadium, selling their best players every year, always finishing outside the big boys.

Wow. I think that highlights just what a massive achievement that was by Simeone and AM!

Thought they were impressive in the game again. Two key players injured and a wonder goal against them in the first half, but they still managed to claw back some initiative in the last 5 minutes of the first half and came out super strong in the second. Amazing mentality and bravery I think.

Hope they do the CL too, would be unreal..

Love Valencia, my team in Spain. Never been to a game but would like to. Them and Fiorentina.

Sounds about right for the Spanish FA, what with the previous fines of €3000 imposed on Real Madrid when their ultras have displayed Nazi paraphernalia at games.

At least the perpetrator was identified and punished on this occasion.

What the ****? She worked at the Barcelona museum and still thought this kind of behavior was acceptable? How disconnected do you have to be?

Pretty massive as far as punishments go I would say, losing your job in the current economy in Spain is no joke.

Barca confirming Luis Enrique: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27477125

The funniest part of that though, when talking about who Celta would replace him with:

Celta, meanwhile, have appointed Eduardo Berizzo, who was coaching O'Higgins in Chile, as their new boss on a two-year deal.

I had no idea there was a team in Chile called O'Higgins. Shows my ignorance of South American history I suppose, according to Wiki they were named "in honour of the country's founding father and supreme director Bernardo O'Higgins".

Berizzo is apparently another Bielsa protege, was his assistant when Bielsa was with the Chilean national team.
