The Society of Black Lawyers...

But Herbert feels the club's inaction against the chanting is unhelpful: "Clearly Tottenham must have known this went on and therefore why they decided not to take action effectively condones it and legitimises those people who clearly have no respect for the Jewish community whatsoever.

"What we are doing is exposing the rather nasty underbelly of racism in British sport and this particular aspect of British sport, football, which is a complete contrast to what you had at the Olympics.

"If you had a section of the crowd at the Olympics chanting this do you think it would be tolerated?

"It would be closed down immediately, so I don't understand why something [that] would be unacceptable in August somehow becomes plausible and acceptable because it moves up to a football ground, unless you go with the intelligence in a sense of a people who openly couldn't care less about the feelings of what they say and the impact on others."

Oldham footballer Dean Furman, who is Jewish, has told BBC Sport there should be a "zero tolerance" approach and fans using the chant should be immediately thrown out of stadiums.

But Piara Powar, executive director of the Football Against Racism in Europe organisation, has criticised Herbert for being naive and questioned whether he properly understands football.

"I think this is where Peter Herbert and the Society of Black Lawyers are naive," he told BBC Sport.

"They perhaps don't know football. To think 20 to 30 years of complex identity will be cleared up overnight is wrong. And I have to say that the Jewish community are split on their use of that term.

"Many young members say it's a badge of appreciation and gives them pride. Some older members says that's not true, it's a derogatory term and goes back to a period they don't want to remember."

He REALLY doesn't get it.

To call mr herbert a **** would be doing all the other ****s a disservice.

I like ****s - I don't like Herbie.

This is what tinkles me off, for years society has been trying to bring minorites into general society yet they wish to continue alienating themselves as its a money spinner.

The them and us mentality. Love it. We're coming out with all the cliches in this thread. So you and others in this thread who have come up with this genuinely believe that much of the discrimination and racism directed towards minorities is actually their fault?

I'm also interested in exactly how minorities are spinning money from their status seeing as, as a group, they are worse off than the majority?

I'd have to disagree jimmy. The name of the organisation is confrontational, incites racial tension and needless IMO.

Confrontational to who exactly? Incites racial tension with who? Spurs fans who are a bit tinkled off that someone is questioning the use of one of the last phrases we actually sing?

Have you asked any White, Asian, other ethnic group lawyers what they feel about the group?

So the whole equality line is coming back up again is it hoot. I'm sorry but that's the biggest cop out excuse of them all. There's equal opportunities to people who work hard to get jobs in law and to say that white kids/people have a better chance of getting one, in 2012, is damn right racist and pathetic in itself!! Absolute bollox.

How on earth is the equality line a cop out Roy? Despite your strange opinions on our society and a profession you probably have little first hand experience of, there isn't yet fully equal opportunities. We have had this exact discussion before and I have outlined to you that despite the mostly tolerant nature of our society, there is still severe inequality.

Suggesting that there isn't complete equality between the races is racist . Give me a break ffs.

Also, I love it when my name is brought up, along with marks, like we're too fudging racist nazis!! I can't speak for mark, although I'm almost certain he will agree, but I don't care what colour you are your either a nice person or a ****! It's that simple for me.

I have issues with certain things, such as has been outlined in this thread, but that's it.

Nobody said that you're racist Nazis. However, there is no denying that you two have a propensity to bulldoze your way into such threads (or start them) and come out with some, to put it lightly, slightly iffy comments. You have shown multiple occasions when actually you have shown that you did care what colour the person was.

As for Marky, he was significantly worse before you joined and seems to have reined himself in now, though most of the things he said before he seemed to admit that he did as a wind-up.

The minorities as a whole aren't gaining anything, but individuals and their associations and societies get attention and then comes donations for example.

Are you being serious?

If it was called 'White Doctors Society', I sincerely doubt you'd be as tolerant

(I find your avatar confrontational but that's another story alltogether)

Yes, I'm being serious. You asked any non-Black British lawyers to ask them if they're offended?

I couldn't care less if white doctors did that. The NHS must be one of the most colour blind organisations in the Western world and for the most part, you get ahead purely on merit and sacrifice, through there is still an element of old boys club there. They can sit around talking about whatever white people talk about in this alternate universe we're creating, as well as advocating for white doctors' rights (which the BMA and MDU already do for drs as a whole anyway) and I can carry on with my education and ultimately job as a doctor not bothered in the slightest and knowing that my final position will almost certainly depend on what I personally have done.

Why do you find my avatar confrontational?

As i have said many times in this thread, if it was called a "Society for White lawyers" there would be screams of racist from the PC phalanx and hand wringing liberals.

I gave the doctors part a generic example - you can use any industry if you wish - point is - I see no reason why it should have a race denominator in its title, imv

Why not just 'Young Lawyers Support Society' Hell 'underpriviliged' if you will

We've had the avatar discussion before and can revise it under PM if you want - would derail the thread othersie, I think

I think the name of the Society of Black Lawyers is polarising and confrontational, but I don't think anyone is going to be particularly offended.

I think the name Society of White Lawyers would be polarising and confrontational and I think some people would be offended with good reason.

So I don't think you can equate the two. If the Society of White Lawyers was an old society with some historical reason for the name then it might be an acceptable, but if someone started one now it would most likely be for a provocative reason.

I think the Society of Black Lawyers would be better served with a different name. If it's goal is to combat racism then a Society of Lawyers Against Racism would be much more inclusive and serve the cause better. I also think that in the current climate, setting up a Society of Black Footballers would be confrontational. I'm not even sure if black footballers are a minority in the Premier League.

So as both a Jew and a lifelong Spurs fan, I say this to my White Hart Lane brethren in the certainty that nothing could influence them less.

Civilised people who visit the Lane, Jews and goyim, do not like hearing the Y-word, though they know it is fondly meant, or having to explain it to their children

WTF?

Norman is a massive **** and he can fudge himself ta ta clown shoe. You're not welcome at the lane

Again, they can do what they want. That probably would be a better name. But to suggest that it is confrontational, when I'm guessing not a single person on this thread has actually asked a single non-Black British lawyer whether they're sitting at home constantly feeling confronted by the presence and name of this group.

No we have not. Mick asked me why I had Louis Farrakhan as my avatar, I explained that it was Malcolm X. Roy then asked why I needed to have a non-Spurs or even non-football avatar before I pointed out that actually most people on the board had such an avatar. I don't remember your involvement in the discussion at all.

I also don't think there is much give left in this thread. We all agree that Herbert is a dingdonghead, we all agree that singing yid army at whl isn't racist and we won't come to an agreement on the other issues and have now started going round in circles. However, if it would make you more comfortable, I certainly wouldn't have any problems continuing this conversation by pm.
