The slightly girly Health, Fitness & Diet Thread

Just bought a new bicycle. (XC Mountain Bike) she is very pretty and went on a 21 mile ride today. Body is so not up to it but need to do the same tomorrow (to and from work)

Was doing a lot of running for a few months but it just got so boring. I'm trying to do some weights and stuff as well and bring up my all-round fitness.

That's called HIIT (High-intensity interval training) and it's much better if you want to lose weight.
Yep also good for developing your power - so will help with strength gains if you're weight training while trimming down the flab. Twice the results in half the time! That doesn't mean to say that its a lot of hard work though!

I did HIIT for a while and lost a two stone in six weeks. HIIT is seriously amazing. Rowing is awesome. So is the cross trainer.

I then stopped gym I gained two stone in a year.

I am now on it again - hopefully for longer than six weeks this time.

HIT?

Recent studies have shown that it's effectiveness is dependent upon your genetic makeup... if your fortunate enough for it to work for you then fair enough.....

I haven't tried it myself..

Haven't read those studies but if you give it a try yourself then you'll realise why it is more effective than continuous exercise at a steady pace. It is absolutely knackering - you could probably burn a good 400 calories in half an hour if you were on, say, a rowing machine. Not only will this help lose fat, but the muscles will be given a good workout as well.

I'd just like to point out that your diet is probably the most important thing in trying to lose weight.

And I don't mean go on a diet, you want something sustainable - so you don't just pack on weight once you've reached your target.

Weighed myself this morning and I've been 12 stone 5.3 for the last couple of days. Slowly gaining some muscles mass - hope to be 12st 7 by Easter, then I can work towards being 13 stone for around June.

Started back on this fitness thing after putting on a few of the pounds that I had lost earlier this year. I haven't actually eaten 'that' badly, I think it's been a combination of being busy and not heading down the gym as much as I had been.

I've started to eat ready made meals for lunch, not so expensive as buying sandwiches and I feel that I've had something proper for lunch. I know that it's probaby not the best for me but with only 300 or so calories per meal, in addition to them being 3% or less fat, they must be ok for me. The main problem I'm now finding is that all the calories I save with my lunch, I want to eat when I get home as I'm hungry.

I would add that I've been drinking only water over the last few days too, cutting out all the crappy fizzy drinks etc maybe that is part of the reason why my body weight has been going up, more water in the body?

What kind of ready made meals mate? I'm no nutritionalist but I'm pretty sure most of them are pretty terrible for you, they look fine calorie wise and such but it's the process of how they make them/preserve them that isn't great.

The Sainsburys Be Good range ones, earlier had pasta bake which was ok, none of these meals taste fantastic but they're ok for what they are. One of my mates said that she thought they had too much salt in them?

I stopped by Clapham Junction and got a pasty from that west cornwall Pasty shop in the station. Got myself a steak pasty but can you believe it contains over 1000 fudging calories. luckily enough i haven't eaten anything else today apart from a few rich tea biscuits but Jeez.

That is crazy, is the pasty huge? I love good Cornish pasties, there's a shop I went to in Winchester that sells them and I like the ones that they make there.

Cheesecake and tort like cakes are ridiculous in terms of calories too. I'm wondering if there are any foods which are suprisingly low in calories but I doubt it. :(

I mean it's pretty big but no way huge. You'd think around 700 Calories at absolute most but 1153? wtf is that about.

Just check how much sugar from carbohydrates the meals have, that's where you're gonna be putting on fat. Obviously excessive levels of salt are bad for your body as well.

Anyone else into rowing? Im not talking about the sport but the exercise regime? I just brought a rower, an air one as opposed to a magnetic one as ive read that air offers more resistance etc, cant wait.

I used to go to the gym etc but now without a car its alittle bit difficult so I thought bringing the gym to me. I like rowing and its a great workout. What is everyone elses thoughts?

Decided to start hitting the gym hard, been pussy-footing around for ages.

Had really good gains last year before the summer, then had lots of work to do (dissertation) and moved back home away from the gym so 6 months without going has seen massive strength loss.

Back day yesterday, Deadlifted 100kg albeit with some pretty poor form.

Anyone else doing strength training or is it mainly cardiobunnies in here?
