The Official 2023/24 Premier League Thread

Unpopular opinion but West Ham are excellent at what they do, they have nullified Brighton and scored when it matters.

Iirc Ward Prowse is useless according to a couple on here but has two assists and a goal in two apps.

The unironic singing of "we know what we are Champions of Europe" is a bit much though obviously...

Edit - That's quality CF play from Antonio.....

Have Brighton really had 81% of the game?
Yea looks that way from what I’ve seen.

Reminds me of the game v Everton at the end of last season, Brighton had all the ball in and around the 18 yard box but couldn’t get a shot off or create a clear chance, whilst looking wide open at the back on the rare occasion they are attacked.

true...they'll be a problem for us with those signings & added to the fact that we're the biggest game of the season for them.

I dunno how Moyes does it. He's the great survivor.

They have a talented squad and massively underperformed in the league last year. They are a strong powerful side who defend really well...and yeah, I'd have been happy to get Ward Prowse in no doubts.

What seems clear is that he suits an Everton / West Ham more than he does a Man United.

Alvarez looks a solid replacement for Rice and Kudus is an interesting one, heard a lot of good things about him.

From a Spurs POV it's an interesting one, Brighton as everyone knows plays attractive football but West Ham were able to shut them down and score some quality goals as well. We've not really gone against low block teams yet but it'll be interesting how we deal with it.

Bowen speaks well and Sky going with some real flimflam low hanging fruit with the "note" handed to Bowen from Redknapp, man I hate coverage of football these days.....It'll get clicks and views no doubt.

Edit - Ferguson showed some good touches but not anywhere near what many would be happy to pay for him going on today, didn't look a 100m player but obviously Chelsea have distorted what that means. Plenty of potential no doubt but an odd set up with him and Wellbeck.

I am 40 but feel 60 as this is one of my pet hates now. Its so laden with gimmicks now that the football sometimes feels secondary.

I just get this impression that the pundits are now playing up to the camera, Micah Richards was decent at the beginning, now he acts like a needy kid, Roy Keane who although a miserable sod calls the game 99.9% of the time right and most of all with a straight bat, he looks increasingly embarrassed

My mate does the PR for Matchroom Boxing, was at Sky for Boxxer, he was telling me their whole ethos now is to attract the social media attention and seem that market as the future of people consuming the game, thats why they dumped 80% of the soccer Saturday reporters and pundits for social media "stars"

My personal axe to grind is the sheer intrusion, pundits wandering through teams in the middle of warm ups or cameramen literally two inches from players in the middle of a celebration. It's too much but it's like the producers have been told the audience is lost if their not absolutely part of it.

Not surprising to see players and Managers alike literally hitting away cameras that are just intrusively close to discussions, it shouldn't have to come to that but the media will inevitably just push their limits.

Micah is nice guy and all but the combo with Keane as a contrast is embarrassing, it's very cringeworthy and I don't think anyone, no matter how simple they are finds everything that hilarious....

Speaking of boxing if you've got a solid link for the Usyk fight hit me up on a pm please, my local isn't showing it!

West Ham finished well. They set out to defend and hit them on the break. It can work. We have seen that with our set up over the last few years.

It's not fun to watch though. For anyone. Even their own supporters. We can attain to that. Results will cover it up..

But what grates for me is when pundits Laud this kind of gameplan. It's not brave, they did not play like soldiers and put their bodies on the line blah blah. I honestly feel any team can play like that. But it will only get you so far.

Being originally from Essex 90% of my mates are West Ham fans and to say their views on him are mixed is an understatement.

Main gripes are the fact they have all these talented players and set up to defend at home, hardly looks to play strikers, has Ings and the Italian lad who rarely play when fit.

Today was decent and a very decent grab, not many will go to Brighton and get that kind of result

I think they will change the manager after this year as they will look at the Brightons and Brentford and want something more progressive

Results are the name of the game though, what can a result cover up?

Not meaning to be overly devils advocate here but look back to the conference league final last year - Fiorentina played excellent football and walked away losers.

Football isn't origami, it's not always the prettiest most intricate things that wins the competitions and as for who enjoys what the most, it's down to the individual and what they may appreciate about the sport. You can unfold a game plan by giving away a sloppy goal in a quarter of a second but if you can defend for 90 minutes whilst snatching a goal there is something in that for me, it's impressive. I say that as someone who is truly enthused with the way we're moving as a club in an entirely different direction.

Cheers anyways @Grays_1890 thought I'd ask....

Paqueta is a little rat btw.

VAR should be used to give a 4 week ban to anyone exaggerating a head injury when there was barely any contact in that area. It's not about club allegiances, we've had players that do the same but one incident was indefensible today. The lack of shame is astounding.
