The Official 2022/23 Premier League Thread

My annoyance at the Leicester game being postponed would be heightened if other matches outside London go ahead leaving us disadvantaged by having to squeeze an extra game in.

There is the acknowledgement that losing one round of games is a headache in an already congested calendar but two would present acute challenges. Therefore, the league and the clubs would try to get away whichever matches they could next weekend, with the feeling being that a partially completed round would be better than no round at all.

This funeral would have been planned years ago. They should already know if other events can go ahead at the same time.

Re policing, that weekend is also the start of Freshers week, so the bars and clubs across 140 cities and towns will be the busiest they are any time of the year other than Christmas

We could propose to Leicester to swap home games (play them at home on the 11th of Feb). Could back fire if the crowd gets into it and they win and turn their season around.

Why is Cricket and Rugby allowed to continue?
FA / Prem decided to postpone, cricket rugby didn't. Theory seems to be football were worried some fans may not respect any silence which may or may not be linked to specific clubs. The grass roots angle seems to be utter nonsense or doubling down on the mourning angle rather than the fan behaviour angle.

They just are not going to come out and say "fans can be cnuts"

Also there is ALOT more football to be played on a weekend with larger crowds than Rugby and Cricket combined and then some so absolutely more chance for incidents. I think people should be given the choice on how they want to carry on in this period, but I do understand the reasoning behind the decision

But I doubt Ange will last that long. He’d be the perfect replacement for Potter at Brighton.

Looks like that could happen: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/33e47e68-31b3-11ed-a08f-af84e8072b22

Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou remains under serious consideration by Brighton and Hove Albion as they seek a successor to Graham Potter. Contrary to reports that the Australian is not on a four-man shortlist drawn up by the club, he is a strong contender on a longer list of candidates with the club currently doing their due diligence before drawing up a shortlist.

Brighton have been impressed by the feedback they have received so far on the 57-year-old. Not only in how he transformed the team on the pitch last season to win the Premiership title and League Cup, but also his personal qualities, including the calmness he maintained with the media during a difficult start in the job after Celtic signed 12 players in his first transfer window for £20 million.

Brighton - Palace, ManU - Leeds and Chelsea - Liverpool off. I'm guessing because they need additional police for these games as it can get a bit heated.

Lovely. Nice way to kill a couple of hours before straining to keep focus at the interminable drear of a baseball game.

Has there ever been trouble at a Spurs-Leicester game?

There was that time Harold set Albert up to collect the trinkets from our Trophy Cabinet only to find a collection of old tin plates.
