Before last year all of the teams he had managed had only turned up for half a season. That suggests to me a manager who struggles to get his ideas across or is uncertain in what he wants.
 
He's struggling to deal with his ageing squad and the demands of two games in a week.

As well as obviously regretting spending 30m on an average squad instead of improving it.
 
Am I the only one who watches MOTD each week and see's West Ham playing the same physical, football they always have? Last two games, the best chances have all come as a result of aerial balls, corners and crosses.

In defence of ours, that game at your place was only his second ever game and he is 3rd choice. Looked a lot better recently now he is no longer a bag of nerves but doubt he will make it at this level. Contract up at the end of the season.

As soon as Carroll was fit their other strikers were shunted to the wing or just dropped.

Yep you're right. Fat Sam is Fat Sam after all - his teams have always been glorified hoof/setplay-ball. There is no way he'd actually be able to change his style even if he wanted to (which I don't believe he wants anyway).

I think the slight difference this year in he's got a couple of better players in (Sahko & Valencia), Downing has done better (he's still a midtable player who bottles just about every big or physical match going tho) And his first choice defense has remained relatively injury-free. So he's had a slightly better team to execute it, with less emphasis on the 'build round a big lump up front'.

But as Jordinho said Carroll is back now so they've reverted to basically an ever so slightly more sophisticated version of the standard Fat Sam style. Oh and Nolan too :ross: - Caroll and Nolan, the two template Allardyce players.

They've done well, for West Ham - but they'll drop down the league as the season goes on IMO.

Biggest worry was always that he had never managed to put together a decent defensive unit at Wigan imo.

He took over a Moyes organized Everton last season and managed to keep that back 4 + goalie fit throughout. Looked very good and as if his problems at Wigan had just been financial and a lack of stability. Has had more issues with injuries and of course EL problems this season and has not done well with those problems. As such that biggest worry remains I think.
 
Martinez is Wenger-lite in terms of building defences...still have a funny feeling he'll win one of the cups this season though...
