A journo, I can't remember which, said before the game on twitter that a lot of PL teams were after him, but he was somewhat expensive. Expect him to be strongly linked from now til next September...

Physio chased off pitch after making goal-line clearance


A Brazilian team's physio stuns their opponents by making a controversial double save to prevent them scoring during a cup match, before being chased from the pitch.

Serie D club Aparecidence's physio sneaked on to the pitch during the game to block two attempts on goal from opposition side Tupi.

His efforts were enough to keep the game tied at 2-2, sending Aparecidence through to the semi-finals on away goals. Tupi are reportedly appealing to get the result overturned.

This weekend Clattenburg will referee Stoke-City, as he did last season, Webb will do Everton-Chelsea, just like last season, and Dean will take on Aston Villa-Saudi Sportswashing Machine, just as he too did last season.

That ribbed hoodie looks suspiciously similar to one I bought recently in Uniqlo. None of the other articles are similar to my recent purchases. Except for the Lidl 5p carrier bag.
 
Supposedly Bale could be LB in his debut. I used to love watching him at LB, much more than up front although he was more effective there.

might be a good place for him to start, less pressure to score and giving him a chance to show the continent what stretching your legs bale-style means
 
I think LB would be a NIGHTMARE starting spot for Bale himself. He is not fully match fit and probably hasn't played LB in well over a year (or more?). So, that opens up the possibility that he makes 2 mental slips or gets caught in possession up the pitch allowing attackers to get in behind him, and his debut is remembered for shipping 2 goals with schoolboy defending. €100m for this guy?? Ouch. White hankie time.

In general though, it's been said for some time that if Bale were a continental player LB would be his natural starting position, so I can see it happening. There's also a case, as metalgear says, that having the whole pitch in front of him to run into makes him more scary than just half of it.

I hope he does well either way.

Konoplyanka has been at Dnipro for a while and has been quite widely coveted in that part of the world. A little surprised that a team like Shakthar haven't gone for him but then they seem to quite like buying up young, south american imports for resale value. Yarmolenko is decent too and I am sure they listed him as being with Dnipro during the England-Ukraine match but as far as I was aware he was at Dynamo Kyiv?
