The new, new manager thread - Pt 3

I think Enic are settling for that, they are happy with a top 4 challenge, no more, no less

i think the target is to establish ourselves in the top 4, not merely to challenge for top 4 - if that was the target then we've reached it for pretty much the whole last decade and we probably wouldn't be changing managers so often.

I think that's a razors edge, underachieve and you get sacked, overachieve, want the board to help you kick on, frustration, arguments, and you get sacked

surely the whole point of our frugal ways since Enic took over is so there is something in the bank to give you that extra boost when we need it

Must be the CV photo.

I think Poch is really going to benefit from being able to have a more settled and adapted Lamela and Soldado this coming year.

I do wonder though if this is how it goes from now on. We lose a big player, use that money to sign a lot of potential from outside the country where we'll find the best value. We then have an under achieving first season with these new signings as they inevitably take a bit of time to adapt, so a new man is brought in who 'gets the best out of them' but actually has them more ready to perform. In a couple of years or so the best player from that new crop is then sold on, and we decide to hunt for value outside of the country again. The man that previously got the best out of these players is seen to be struggling to make the new players gel, and the search will go on for a supposedly better manager to push us forward.

I really hope that isn't how it goes.

Oh blimey, the frugal ways under ENIC are so we don't fall into the red whilst implementing huge capital projects *shakes his head in disbelief at what he is reading*

i think the plan is to be continually signing up talented youngsters, so that we have a steady stream of players approaching their potential as each season passes, as well as working on the development squad so we can produce players of our own. i think there is a bit of a gap in our squad atm of these types which probably is a result of having 3 or 4 seasons where we solely focused on the first team in the transfer market (the period in between DoFs)

I think we are far better off than that, I think we are sat on a pile of cash, we make a profit in the transfer market, don't pay big wages and fill the stadium every game with "high" ticket prices

we're minted

that's just not the case at all. our finances are posted each season and we break even (more or less) every year

Benitez is the man, wins trophies everywhere he goes pretty much. Pochettino, is he that good or does he just have very good players out Southampton?

Yeah, but he only goes to clubs with massive budgets and/or quality squads and normally with a history of success.

Benitez as a Spurs manager would have the tightest restraints he'd ever have to work under and he's a confrontational character who likes a lot of control. Just not going to work at Spurs IMO.

Not according to our last accounts we're not!
