A joke competition? No the bigger sides might think that however its a very winnable competition for us. Unfortunately, Redknapp seems to agree with the bigger clubs. I still think of it as the Uefa Cup anyway.

me too, the trophy is the same and its a beautiful pot to win

its not a joke competition and we have no right to disregard any competition.....how can we mock the scum for winning no trophies when we dont take the competitions we enter in seriously

they are seperate issues. The competition is overly complicated, and involves giving CL failures an out.

it renders the competition a joke.

I would be all for taking it seriously if UEFA did rather than fudge around and ruin the format.

If Chelsea win tonight then I would rather that we concentrated on the league again next season and use the Europa League for fringe players and kids. Without this approach last season we might not have seen Livermore develop into a squad member.

Certainly the biggest plus to come out of the Europa league this year.

Have to agree with Mick, much as I dont want to disrespect it, I think it would be a far better comp as a straight ko like the old Uefa Cup, and no CL rejects

i think we should be humble and just play by the rules of any competition we enter. same rules for everyone, whoever is allowed or not allowed to enter shouldnt matter. Reaching finals and trying to win is whats important

Not at the expenses of our domestic form. Thursday games, the pointless group round and Champions League failures parachuted in have completely killed it.

as much of a joke as a Champions League involving teams that finish 2nd, 3rd and 4th in their respective domestic leagues?

Are we too arrogant as a club in that we disrespect the Europa League? The competition isn't so much a joke, it's that the bigger teams don't play in the Europa League and if we aren't part of the biggest European Competition then we view the Eurpoa League as below us because the standard of opposition is so low.

Damn... Ribery offside :(

no
it has nothing to do with us

its a joke becaues UEFA fecked around with the format and reduced it to a parody of a competition

I would enter the Spurs ladies team into it, just to really take the tinkle

The most silly rule is the one that keeps us all in our seats tonight: The rule of a free pass to last seasons winners.

No, departos. If you can't qualify (fourth, FOURTH, goddamnit) from your league, then no, you can't defend your title. Deal with it.

For now it's just another free pass to the biggest clubs, to keep them in the competition, when they are exhausted from competing on multiple fronts throughout the season.

Brad the legend!!!!

to be perfectly honest - yes!

I agree, it was far better with the European Cup, UEFA Cup and Cup Winners Cup. The only reason that we have the Champions League is because the big clubs wanted a guaranteed revenue stream to cement their dominance.

Or, for the older ones amongst us....send a team of 10 reserves and Alan Pardew
