DEFENDERS (6): Carlos Bocanegra (Rangers), Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaelland), Jonathan Spector (Birmingham City)

ROSTER NOTES

The U.S. has collected three consecutive victories, including a pair of shutout wins against Venezuela and Panama to open the 2012 campaign. In addition to providing a series of activities designed to develop individual player pathways, Klinsmann has given 41 players at least one cap through his nine games as head coach.

A total of 12 players return from the group that defeated Slovenia 3-2 in Ljubljana, including all three goalscorers: Edson Buddle, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore.

Michael Bradley is the lone U.S. international playing in Italy, becoming a fixture in the lineup for Chievo in Serie A since moving there this summer. Bradley has started 22 straight league matches, and was named Man of the Match in the 1-0 win against Genoa last weekend.

Jozy Altidore and Steve Cherundolo remain involved in Europa League action, as AZ Alkmaar and Hannover have reached the Round of 32.
Eight leagues in seven different countries are represented on the roster.

Klinsmann added midfielder Sacha Kljestan and forward Brek Shea to the U.S. roster after Timmy Chandler (left hamstring strain), Landon Donovan (bronchitis) and Jose Torres (right hamstring strain) were forced to withdraw from the squad.

Shea originally was named to the U-23 MNT for its game against MexicoÔÇÖs U-23s on Wednesday in Frisco, Texas. But the FC Dallas forward will be with the senior team and has a chance to continue his streak of playing in every game with Klinsmann at the helm. Shea has started in seven matches and entered as a sub in two games.

Terrence Boyd is the only player on the roster who will seek to earn his first cap. The Borussia Dortmund-based striker has been a regular part of the U.S. U-23 MenÔÇÖs National Team. Boyd originally was named to the U-23 roster heading into the teamÔÇÖs Feb. 29 match against Mexico in Frisco, Texas, but he had not joined the team yet.

Goalkeeper Nick Rimando was named to KlinsmannÔÇÖs roster again. He had 45 shutout minutes during the USAÔÇÖs 1-0 win against Panama earlier this year and was named Budweiser Man of the Match.

Four players on the U.S. roster are age-eligible for the 2012 London Olympics: Jozy Altidore, Boyd, Shea and Danny Williams. Six former Olympics from the 2008 Beijing Olympics are on KlinsmannÔÇÖs current roster.

Jurgen Klinsmann returns to his old home ground, having played at local club Sampdoria in 1997.

USA VS. ITALY SERIES

The U.S. is 0-7-3 all-time against Italy, with the series starting on May 27, 1934, in the FIFA World Cup in Rome. Italy won that match 7-1.

Though Italy has dominated the series, the USA has posted three draws in the past six meetings.

The U.S. hosted Italy for the first time on May 30, 1984, for a friendly in East Rutherford, N.J. The two sides played to a scoreless draw ÔÇô the first draw from the USA after opening the series with four losses from 1934 to 1952.

The U.S. and Italy last met on June 15, 2009, in the FIFA Confederations Cup in Pretoria, South Africa. Landon Donovan gave the U.S. a 1-0 lead when he converted a penalty in the 41st minute, but the defending Confederations Cup champs scored three unanswered goals for the 3-1 victory.

Italy is 3-0-0 when the team hosts the U.S., 0-0-2 in USA-hosted matches and 4-0-1 on neutral sites.

Go America.

One thousand and fifteen posts? my word.

I'm unemployed. Though there are people with 50% more posts than i have...

That said an 'International Match Thread' would be far preferable to this, not sure if you can change the title or not though, every time i've tried to change a title on my own threads it hasn't liked it..

tried to change it. maybe need the mods to do something about it. although this whole thing might just need to be moved to the midweek thread. though to be truthful, i quite dislike the midweek thread. too unspecific.

I love it. Thanks, Volspur. There are enough of us Yanks on here to warrant a thread, maybe?

Not liking this today though, no Donovan. I like Altidore up front though, 2 goals this past weekend and now 11 in the Eredevisie in his first season there. Not too shabby. Would have liked to see Agudelo play, he's our next good player.

seems interesting to me that Friedel doesn't get a look with the USMNT... Is Howard really that much better?

Too old at this point. They like Howard more, and he's younger. He'll be their keeper again at the next Cup, and frankly, he's always been solid.

Guzan should be their next keeper after, but he really hasn't done anything for Villa.

USA!

I used to not rate Bradley much, but he has improved a lot on the international stage.
He's solid enough, and has been really good for Chievo. Would like to see Tim Ream get some play at CB, but he just played his first game for Bolton, so they're probably going to bring him along slowly.

Wouldn't mind seeing Agudelo either. Been hearing quite a bit about an even younger forward playing for a German side. Bring on the youths i say.

Think Edu and Bradley are two holding midfielders for the future and we've got some exciting young fullbacks coming on as well. Just need to sort out our wide forward and CB play, and hope for the best from the likes of Altidore and Agudelo in the future.
