Torres subbed on the 46th minute? ouch...

Shame, he was getting really close to 24 hours of football without scoring..

Never mind, i found it.

Current barren spell stands at 19 games or 1,253 minutes (20 hours and 53 minutes)
Last goal scored: 27th minute of Chelsea vs. Genk on October 19th 2011

Though not sure it included todays game..

Didn't Chelsea buy plenty of young players over the summer? Not just Lukaku but the likes of Romeu, Courtois, de Bruyne etc with youth players like Kakuta and McEachran coming up.

They're teenagers, so it'd take a few years before AVB can see the results, if he lasts that long. He has got the younger players like Sturridge, Mata, Ramires, Bertrand etc playing well so I think it really is an issue of player power and the old guard being pricks. AVB is whiny and a bit lacking in charisma, but plenty of managers before him have struggled with Chelsea's players.

I think Chelsea are just going through transitional pains atm, like Arsenal and Man United (who have managed it far better than Chelsea have obviously). Most of their young players are still too young to oust the old guard and play regularly this season. But they're still pretty promising, even if unproven, so even if Chelsea are forced to follow FFP I think they'll be back to competing near the top in 2-3 years. Annoyingly.

Right now we're settled and in our prime and have been collecting quite a few teenagers ourselves, but we also have many 30+ players in our squad - including ones that have played massive roles this season like Parker, King, Friedal, and Defoe - and our main striker isn't ours, so we have to keep that in mind and refresh the squad next season with players in the 21-25 age group to bridge the transition better than Chelsea have.

For example, I'm not at all convinced that Sandro is a direct replacement for Parker (I think they are more complementary than substitutes, with different strengths); we have no long-term replacement for JD/Saha and Friedal; we have no long-term replacement or back-up for Ade so we're fudged when he's out (and certainly next season if we don't buy him); we have no back-up for BAE (Rose needs far more development); Kaboul and Dawson are still not an ideal pairing despite being good CBs individually (so Caulker is the great hope here); VdV seems essentially unsubstitutable when fit even when 4-4-2 or Niko may work better, etc.

(Ideally Hazard could develop to fill that second-striker role while also forcing VdV/Lennon/Bale to rotate. But what if Ade or Parker break down? I don't want this season to be a flash in the pan, but we've been heavily reliant this season on a core group of 11-14 players who have mostly avoided long injuries.)

Whoever our next manager is, Harry or not, will have a great chance to make an imprint on the team, if Levy is capable and willing to release funds.
