The inside Forward Conundrum

Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon would be amazing. He's a brilliant dribbler, however I believe he is left footed and plays from the right. Ideally you want 3 forwards who are all capable of interchanging

Villa --- Bale--- Lacazette would be full of dribbling ability and shooting.

Lacazette .......the guy that ran the show at whl last season.......other than being a bit greedy and not picking out players in better positions on the basis of 2 games I thought he looked exceptional......

im sure Lyon would be thrilled at the thought of negotiating with Levy again...lol

The guy who caused us all sorts of problems in the el last year, played for Basle I think, Salsa or something? Anyone know anything about him?

Salah. Very, very pacey. He is someone I would like us to buy and nuture. I thought he was outstanding against us at White Hart Lane and should have scored had it not been for a slightly sloppy finish. Valentin Stocker also looked very good against us in both games and obviously got the opener at Home. He is more technical but again a very clever player, good resale value too.

To my mind, these are the sorts of players that we should try to get in alongside someone more notable. They would be available at a decent price, we have seen them perform against us and no doubt monitored them in the run up to the matches with their respective clubs.

At the time it was said by Basel fans that Salah wasn't even a nailed on starter for them in the league because he was a lot better when allowed to counter attack than when teams defended deep against them.

He had two good games against us, in game situations that fit his reported strengths perfectly. Our biggest problem last season was breaking down stubborn teams in my opinion, we looked fine when allowed to attack on the break.

Reminds me of Marin, not as a player, but the situation.

He hadn't been a first teamer prior to Christmas but borke into the team more around that time. I agree that he isn't neccessarily going to unlock the door by just having pace but being as young as he is then nuturing him to be more tricky and use more guile could be a goer. I think from what I saw during those two games and some other bits I have watched of him that it would be possible.

I'm all for signing young promising players with potential.

I think Townsend and Pritchard already fit that description though, potentially along with Ceballos if you rate him. What we need is a first choice player that can step right in and be an upgrade on Dempsey and Sig, otherwise for this season there's not much point.

Long term buying youngsters is good, but Salah is the same age as Townsend. I think Townsend has shown us enough for us to give him a go rather than spend not insignificant money on someone that may or may not be better than him.

If we're buying someone for their potential (for significant amounts of money) then it should be someone with even more potential than the youngsters we already have in similar positions. Based only on reports perhaps Halilovic could be that player?

i don't think pace is something we are looking for when we have like 16 players in front of goal. a player like villa makes sense (but not the lack of sell on value) we should be placing a punt on the next gen villas if any.

I agree about Townsend. I don't think that Salah as a signing should be influenced by his presence though. I think that having both Salah and Townsend as wide players at their age would be good for us with the number of games we are hoping to play. Ceballos and Pritchard are a bit further away from our first team to my mind, at least 2 years. I think they both need a good loan with a team in the championship for a full season to see what they are made of before being intergrated gradually into the first team squad.

You think we will be able to offer both of them enough first team football at this point, first team football probably being critical for their development at this stage.

I don't think so, unless we get ridiculous injury problems.

I think we could offer them enough football. It would allow us to perhaps not rely on playing Bale/Lennon in all the European games/League cup games. Its a bit of a vicious circle though. I would like to think that playing say Salah and Townsend would still have enough to carry us through 4-5 group games in the Europa League and a couple of rounds of the Capital One Cup without being knocked out. Whether that would be the case is obviously dependant on numerous factors like who we would draw. I actually think both those wide players could play in league games allow us to rotate more freely too.

Obviously the price for signing Salah would be key as well. If they wanted say, £8m plus then we arent buying him as a rotation option imo. This is all my own personal opinion........to close I would much prefer us to splash the cash and sign Nani if at all possible!

I had the same thought a few days ago. Him or a van der Vaart at their peaks for us would be ideal now.

Kranjcar maybe but why VDV? After 2 games he'd be dropped by AVB for not closing down enough and he's not ideal in the role on the left or right side of a 3.

It's a pretty free role, rather than wide in a 4-4-2 like Redknapp tried a few times. Our CM trio now mean we can accomodate a specialist lock picker in our front 3. We're going to have a lot of possession now, so need someone who can make things happen with two banks of 4 in front of him.

Hopefully Sig will step it up a notch, he's not too dissimilar to Kranjcar in my view and with better work rate and stamina so he actually fits what AVB is trying to do.

If we go for Benteke then there's no way we are signing anyone for the left, so we might well be pinning our hopes on Siggy.

we dont know that though. We might still have 9 mill left in the kitty for Eriksen. Pretty much a bargain to offset against the huge expenditure on Benteke
