Not sure where to post this but the holiday thread seems appropriate.
I’m using Duolingo to get some basics of Spanish as we’re planning a couple of months in Central America later this year.
After a good month or more I’m very confident that I can order a tomato salad in a restaurant, can buy a blue (or red or brown) jacket in a shop, can identify a cat and a dog, and very importantly can ask for three pens to use at my university.
Are there any other freebie sources out there? I guess I could try You Tube but any pointers are most welcome.
Michel Thomas, as Glasgow mentioned, is good.
Could try and do a course or lessons out there early on - no substitute for proper lessons.
Do you have an itinerary? I have been all over Central and loved it

Still working things out. Looking at Mexico/Guatemala/Belize, but may have to change that depending on how much time we will have. I hate having to compromise too much so it might end up being just Mexico and we go back another time to explore further afield.
