It would take some doing to go lower than the EL places.:)

Wenger's time was well up (probably stayed on for 2 too many seasons) and, as United have proved, moving on from one dynasty is not easy. I still see a lot of the old Arsenal in this team and quite possibly their forwards (and Ramsey) have kept them at a respectable level.

There is much to do and not much money to do it, and it's fair to say the jury is out on whether Emery is the man to do it. I don't get the feeling he's improved any individual?

EL for them is slowly killing them. It MUST continue next season.

The other problem for Emery is I feel he is open to parody when it all starts to go wrong.

The thing for me is that Wenger will have his stamp on everything about that club, from the training routines down to the tea and biscuits on offer in the canteen.

For 25 years he will have been making it his.

For anyone to come into any club and not have a dip, or a really turbulent season, and to hit "par" - thats actually a fair achievement.

Which is why Im 50/50 on him, because that does have to counter balance the fact I am distinctly unimpressed by him.

Fingers crossed they fail to win the EUROPA (every chance thats the case) and theyll be stuck in no mans land again. Huge rebuild to do, without the funds to do it. Compromises needed, maybe sell some assets, and likely be passed over by players wanting CL. Heres hoping anyway...

It's a fair point. I think what seems so unimpressive from the outside is that there doesn't seem to be much of anything different on the pitch. I can understand if something different is happening but it's failing, as it can take time to change a culture, get ideas across etc. But it looks so much the same to me. If say, Poch or Guardiola had gone there, I think you'd see an attempt at a certain style of play, even if it failed due to the players not being good enough. I can't actually see what Emery is trying to do on the pitch. What is Arsenal's playing style right now? I couldn't really tell you, they pass it sideways quite a lot like latter years Wenger. Incoherent defensive strategy, again see latter years Wenger. Emery's been there long enough for some sort of style to emerge imo, unless he doesn't really have one.
 
Absolutely fair, and I agree.

I am absolutely unimpressed by Emery so far, I just try to temper it with the idea it should (?) have been much worse than it has been, which has to be a credit to him.

Perhaps his plan was to emulate Wenger, make the transition smoother and slower, with more change next season. Or perhaps this is it?

I do think though, that rebuild he has to do, is far from easy. They are in that awful better than the rest, but behind the top teams spot we know so well. Life is hard there...

I still think that’s a positive for Emery, when Sir Alex retired United dropped 5 places and amassed around 40 points fewer.

I expected the first post Wenger season to see them comfortably mid table, maybe even bottom half considering how many average players they have.

The standard of the PL this season is incredibly poor though it must be said.

Agreed.

Though I think it has to be said - its not looking good for them next year unless they blag a CL place IMO.

They just arent pulling players like they used to, and they wont be paying for them like they used to either - especially wages.

If they dont make CL they lose ground, and we know how hard that is to make up...
