The Goon Thread

Last 3 years its been 1 point, 1 point, 10 points and last year was a cluster****, its not like were 30 points behind them every year

We're not you're right, but it's the same thing every year (mostly), sure, over the last 10 years the gap has closed, but it has halted.

They flirt with disaster every year, I think that their luck will have to change at some point.

Yeah, this is SUPERB news.

Arsenal keep the guy who gets them top four over us EVERY year and someone who just won a trophy. Whilst we contest sixth place and barely get to the quarter finals of any trophy we're in.

As others above have agreed, Arsenal "with" Wenger is a better bet at the moment then an Arsenal without. With Wenger they will not win the Premiership or Champions League. That is for certain. Without him, the right appointment of a new manager means it could (and I stress could) happen.

In the last few years the only reason we have not overtaken them is purely down to our own incompetence at crucial times. Its nothing to do with Wengers ability. They have been in decline for years under Wenger, and last season was no different. We should have taken their champions league spot a few times these last few years. If Fergie had stayed just one more season Arsenal would be out of the champions league next season. The 4th place trophey hides a hatful of sins for them.

In terms of "us" competing with Arsenal give me Wenger now in 2014 then the threat of a better manager joining them and leaving us for dead.

Should we worry about the prospect of Arsenal buying Benzema after Real buy Suarez?

Would Benzema be the striker that would take them to the next level, and also bring out more from Ozil?

Good to see how well this 'special realtionship' with Madrid is working. ](*,)

why would a "special relationship" mean Real Madrid can't sell to Arsenal, I don't get it?

You think they're going to be like "oh ****, we have a special relationship with Spurs, let miss out a ton of money because of this"

they can't force him to come to us either

"want to go to arsenal?"

"maybe"

"want to go to spurs?"

"who?"

I don't see how Madrid have done anything wrong in regards to this "special agreement" - Oh big whoop, they sold Ozil to Arsenal. They got £40,000,000 for it. Were they going to turn it down? I find it quite laughable that people think Madrid will give players to Arsenal because they have an agreement with us. If Morata had a loan bid from both us and Arsenal, and Madrid sent him to Arsenal, then I might start to believe that the special agreement is bogus.

It does go to show what a difference the influx of £billionaire owners has made to the Premier League that ARSEnal actually got more points last season than they did during ARSEne' first title winning campaign.

Hopefully Pochettino can finally end ARSEne' hoodoo over Spurs...

So rumours of Gunners buying any of following strikers: Remy, Morata, Benzema and Mandzukic.
Which of these are
A) realistically likely to happen
B) shold scare the hell out of us if they DO happen?

They'll end up getting none of them and buying another floaty midfielder instead.

Arsene Wenger is personally overseeing plans for a major upgrade to Arsenal's training centre and is also interested in recruiting the head fitness coach of the Germany national team to his backroom staff.

Arsenal moved to their London Colney base in 1999, with Wenger designing the facility to a specification that made it widely regarded as the very best in the Premier League. Chelsea, Emirates Marketing Project, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have since built even more modern training centres and, amid the backdrop this season of the worst injury record in the Premier League, Arsenal are preparing to seek planning permission on projects that, over the next three years, will run into the millions of pounds.

The club have already begun working with architects on a new athletic development centre within the Colney base, as well as additional space for offices and analysis. A new medical centre was completed at Colney in October 2011 and, at the club's Hale End Youth Academy, construction work will take place over the next year on new medical and educational facilities, as well as a new gym.

Arsenal also hope to add additional expertise this summer, with Shad Forsythe, who was brought up in Washington and has worked with the Germany national team over the past decade, likely to join the backroom staff. No deal has been done yet but further talks will be held after the World Cup regarding what would be a newly created role.

"We continue to develop our capability in many of our support areas, including our physical performance work and data analytics", said Ivan Gazidis, the club's chief executive.

Wenger promised a comprehensive review of the club's training and medical procedures after his team's Premier League title challenge was largely derailed this season by injuries to key players. Most critically, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott were missing for significant periods and, according to the website physioroom.com, Arsenal had the worst injury record of any Premier League club during the 2013-14 season. Arsenal were without first-team players for a combined 1,716 days, compared with Chelsea who were without key players for just 556 days this season.

Physioroom.com has also conducted research for the 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons and, in each of those years, Arsenal were among the seven worst affected clubs. Over the four year period, the club who have lost players for the most days to injury is Saudi Sportswashing Machine on 5,645, followed by Arsenal on 5,492 and Tottenham on 5,330. The contrast with Chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project, who have respectively lost only 2,164 and 2,895 days during the past four seasons, is particularly stark.

Much of Arsenal's first-team squad is also in Brazil although midfielder Abou Diaby is ready to start a full pre-season schedule this summer in an attempt to resurrect his career. Theo Walcott's rehabilitation remains positive following knee surgery but he is still likely to follow a specially tailored programme for most of pre-season, with September regarded as a more realistic target for his first-team return than the start of the season.

With them signing Sanchez I see another top 4 finish for them, he is definitely world class

Everyone was blown away by them signing Ozil last summer too. It doesn't always work out like that.

I think that they are ahead of us (just) but they have really pushed their luck these last few seasons and at some stage it will not go their way.

They were just ahead of us last year. If they keep signing a superstar every summer, they will zoom away from us and we won't catch up by the time the NDP is completed.
