The General Transfer Rumours and Speculation Thread

The Mirror reported in November that Milik - who finished the Eredivisie season with 21 goals from 28 starts - had a trial with the Lilywhites as a 16-year-old, only for the club to pass up the opportunity because they had 'better players of his age on their books'.

Yep, we did have, one Harry Kane.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly could've signed the Pole for just £100,000 six years ago.

Whether it's Arsenal refusing to pay £100,000 for a Didier Drogba ripping up the French second division, or Chelsea picking up a paltry £15 million for Kevin De Bruyne - who joined Manchster City for nearly four times that amount just 18 months later - Premier League clubs occasionally get it horribly wrong. Might Spurs be about to follow suit?

According to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, Liverpool and Everton are battling to sign £10 million-rated Ajax striker Arkadiusz Milik - the 22-year-old who Tottenham reportedly passed on for £100,000 following a trial with the club six years ago.

The Mirror reported in November that Milik - who finished the Eredivisie season with 21 goals from 28 starts - had a trial with the Lilywhites as a 16-year-old, only for the club to pass up the opportunity because they had 'better players of his age on their books'.

Harry Redknapp would have been the manager at the time but the report does not state who made the decision to let him go. After that, the Poland international went on to join Gornik Zabrze for 500,000 Zlotys - now the equivalent of £90,000 GBP.

He is set to feature heavily for his nation at Euro 2016, having starred alongside Robert Lewandowski in helping the Poles secure automatic qualification, netting six times in the process.

Tottenham might be hoping that Milik does not join a Premier League club this summer in fear of him hitting the ground running, further exposing their reported decision not to sign him.

Arsenal and Chelsea will be haunted by their aforementioned errors in judgement for a while yet.
No point crying over spilt Milik.

Said in the thread discussing who we should sign from Ajax next that we should go for him and that he would be a great signing back in May.

Like the look of him and think he would be a good value signing.

Looks like Dembele is off to Galatasaray. What puzzles me is why we didn't go after him in the summer. We were interested and almost had a deal done in January and 5 months later we're not interested. Same with Berahino. Any thoughts why this may be? Are we identifying better targets? More cash in the bank so can go for someone more expensive? Other?

I don't get that either. We either wanted him or we didn't. I don't buy the "stop gap" argument as he wasn't a Lambert or a Long, but a young striker with plenty of potential. A snip at the reported 6million for a young striker IMO. I hope we don't live to regret it.

Looked an obvious stop gap to me - was available at a snip due to his contract situation and could have been sold with minimum fuss at a profit in the next window or two if things didn't work out

Joao Carlos Teixeira has confirmed he’s rejected a new deal with Liverpool after agreeing a “dream” move back to Portugal with FC Porto.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who will return to his homeland on a free transfer after four years at Anfield, has signed a deal until 2020 with the Portuguese giants.

Teixeira was always likely to quit Anfield this summer following his desire to play regular first-team football and despite the Reds’ offer of a new deal, the player has confirmed Porto have won the race for his signature.

“I am from the north and to wear blue and white has always been a dream for me,” Teixeira said.

“Now I can work at my club in my region and my country.

“I had other offers but do not want anything other than to wear blue and white.”

Teixeira started his career at Braga and later played for Sporting Lisbon before Liverpool signed him for £850,000 in 2012.

The Portugal Under-21s international progressed from the Kirkby Academy to Melwood and made his senior Reds debut against Fulham at Craven Cottage in February 2014. He went on to make eight first-team appearances and scored one goal – against Exeter City in the FA Cup back in January.

However, with his opportunities limited under Jurgen Klopp, Teixeira decided the time was right to move on.

Slow news day, huh?

We're not in the business of signing young players only because they're "a snip" or have plenty of potential. We're not in the business of stockpiling players like Chelsea or City have at times.

If there's not a realistic path for him into the first team where he can progress in a good way there's no point in signing him. If other players have moved ahead of him as our targets buying him as well just because we wanted him before or because he's cheap just doesn't fit with our current transfer strategy I think. Makes perfect sense to me.

Feghouli has signed for West Ham for the next 3 years!!!

Who is he???

26 year old winger from Valencia it would seem. 29 goals and 27 assists in 6 seasons with them, according to link below.
Apparently chose WH instead of opportunity to play CL with Benfica. "The reason? Slaven Bilic. The Mirror's report claims that Feghouli is so keen to work with West Ham's enigmatic manager that he's snubbed a move to Portugal in favour of East London, handing West Ham a huge coup in the transfer market."

Or maybe, given that it was a free transfer, there was a nice financial incentive.

EDIT : just registered on this bit of the above extract : "handing West Ham a huge coup in the transfer market"
Is it? I don't follow non-English football that closely but have usually heard something of players whose signing would be considered a "huge coup". Am I missing something here?

Indeed.

Apparently he is a free agent who was just about to sign for Benfica when they gazumped his wages.

They seem desperate for signings and are spunking wages to any Carlos Kickaball they can find in the hope of generating more fan interest i presume?

Still, with Everton having allegedly a £150m kitty for Koeman there will be plenty of bang average players coming in for lots of money in the coming weeks.
