Thing is these are the same fans who bragged during the winning era about how little Wenger needed to spend compared to other clubs because he was excellent at bringing through young talent. They then proceeded to enjoy the magnificent football he dished up with all the players he actually did buy (a brick load of them if we are being honest ) and everyone was happy.
Then along came Chelski with their large bags of money, followed soon by City and they protested at how improper it was for these teams to spend so mauch on players, Wenger didn't need to do this to be successful - they were invincible after all! They even accused manu of this too even though much of their money is self generated.
Now, no Prem title for 12 years they're like a pack of wild dogs that have been starved. The winning has gone, the glory is no more and they want Wenger to do what they lambasted other clubs for doing. Some want him out - this is the man that has turned them into a footballing club.
I'm not sure why you would feel sorry for these fans, they chased a club that used to win, that is the essence of their infatuation. Why are they not Spurs fans? I think it's because they loved winning and Arsenal happened to be doing that at the time. Now they are no longer doing this they can't deal with it and want a change - be careful what you wish for!
Christ, it feels like such a long time ago now, but I'd really forgotten about how smug their fans used to be about Wenger not spending any money. tossing themselves into oblivion because they signed Vieira from Milan's reserves. Because they signed Anelka for peanuts then sold him to Real Madrid for £25m a couple of years later.
To be fair to him, he was pretty good at it for a while - the same policy got him Fabregas, Van Persie, Adebayor (who did end up going nuts but only cost £3.5m and was sold for £25m), Ljungberg, Song and some guy who's contract we didn't renew.
Maybe that's given him an arrogance that he thinks he can still act this way and be cleverer than everyone else. I don't doubt he was smarter than most when he came over here - he had a knowledge of working in other leagues at a time when practically every other manager in the country was British. He massively improved Arsenal's scouting system at they repeaed the benefits. But scouting systems have improved across the world - that advantage is gone. Yet the policy persists. And the more recent generations of young players, the likes of Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey etc just haven't lived up to their potential.
They've been massively bailed out by Ozil and Sanchez over the past two seasons. And as the only two players in the past decade that Wenger has spent decent money on, it's not hard to see why their fans want more of them now.
