The Cricket Thread

No kookaburra ball until June - definitely had an impact in early spring last year - lots of runs.

Historically seamers pick up wickets in April May as the wickets are greener and weather conditions help them, Jon Lewis was a classic case at Gloucestershire.

Season will be decided within first three fixtures IMO, whoever maximises the ball swinging round corners will win the league.

Essex v Surrey first up, I would go as far to say winner of that wins the league, thats how poorly planned the fixture list is.

Shame Essex are without Thakul now, he would have taken wickets for fun but got called up to the IPL and has left us short
He is the top wicket taker in the IPL already

I don’t know about that the pitches will be pretty hard already with three weeks of sun and no rain.

Essex are in no trouble on a benign pitch. Should be looking to declare later this afternoon with 600 on the board and try and get both Burns and Sibley out cheaply.

Very good day yesterday for Essex and I noticed quite a good crowd up there -which is good to see.

I just think those that get the results in these conditions early on have a great chance later on. I think its been the same the last few years, start of the season is def result conditions, when 4 days comes back later on, its draw conditions,.

A host of games yesterday were 2 seasons down or close to.

Its such a balls up IMO that we lose a month and abit to the hundred and the 50 in the prime weather

Money will always take priority for the ECB, especially more so now that there is a load of Indian investment
Total disgrace
Oh no doubt there.........its a shame.

For a county like Essex who regularly punch above their weight and make use of the T20 to do so, we will be killed off in 10 years or so, the decks stacked.

It depends what they do with the hundred franchise distributions. Mega money to be handed around by the ECB. And they didn’t need to lift a finger.

But more if you are a host county right? So Yorkshire sold up already, Essex don't have that luxury for example

Host county’s own 50% but the other half is the Ecb’s for distributing elsewhere - so you know it should write large cheques for Essex, Kent, Somerset and so on to support the longer format.

Surrey are spending their £50M windfall on a pro women’s team, and another ground to accommodate more cricket.
