This helmet really doesnt have one brain cell does he...

Australia batsman David Warner admits he overstepped the mark in his criticism of England's Jonathan Trott.

Warner, who scored 49 and 124 in Australia's 381-run first Test victory in Brisbane, described Trott's second-innings dismissal as "pretty poor and weak".

England's No 3 batsman was caught for nine after struggling with Mitchell Johnson's short-pitched bowling.

The comments, made at a media conference on Saturday after stumps on day three, were condemned by England captain Alastair Cook as "disrespectful".

"I made those comments for a reason," Warner said prior to the announcement of Trott's departure from the tour due to a stress-related illness. "Look, yesterday, the bounce and pace got to them again.

"It is Ashes cricket. Probably went a little bit too far with the comments, but it's cricket and now it's in the back of their mind.

"It was good banter. It's always good banter between us and England.

"It's been a tough six months," he added. "The last 10 weeks have been fantastic. It's the start of something new."

Australia's bowlers caused England's batsmen with a barrage of bouncers throughout the Gabba Test and often followed up the short-pitched assaults with a few choice words.

Tempers threatened to boil over on Sunday as Australia approached victory on day four, with umpires moving to step in and separate players sniping at each other.

Left-hander Warner has strayed into controversy a number of times this year, most notably when he punched England batsman Joe Root at a Birmingham bar in the lead-up to the Ashes in England and was stood down for the first two Tests.

He was also fined by Cricket Australia for an expletive-strewn rant against prominent Australian cricket writers on Twitter earlier this year

Hit a nerve did it?

Good to see after Cricket Australia tried to over-sanitise the team after 'Monkey Gate' where Andrew Symonds rudely had himself racially vilified. I think Boof has brought back the agro in the side.

Admit it - you love it!

I thought it was funny...embarrassing funny. The broken arm sledge... about as threatening as being savaged by a dead sheep. The sort of sledge an under 12 makes. You could just see Clarke trying to channel Ian Chappell. He looked like a fool. Sorry if this observation offends. If an England captain carried on like that I would be embarrassed by it... I wouldn't celebrate it.

Gee, I really hope that Warner's career in professional cricket works out long term... otherwise the big bucks, the model girlfriend and the endorsement will all be gone and it will be back to the abbattoir lugging around sides of beef.

Doesn't offend at all. Clarke is a bit of a lovely-boy. He tries hard with the tatt sleeve and closely cropped hair do, but it takes more than that to hide the private school boy stench.

But even still, it got to Anderson. He's got the biggest gob in the entire England team so its a bit ridiculous that you English are crying foul about him being given a bit back, especially since it was all in response to comments he supposedly made to Bailey. Probably along the same lines as Clarke's comments when you think about it, only problem being that the commentary didn't turn up the stump cam mic when Jimmy was having a go.

It's all a bit of fun and the only thing embarrassing about it is the over-reaction. You can be assured that Vaughan, Hussein, Strauss and oh **** yeah Freddie of course and Beefy (and lets not forget Jardine who is probably the most embarrassing captain in cricketing history) have said worse things in the course of their captaincy.

Ha, ha. Have to agree with the comment re private school stench. I have never warmed to this guy, as you can tell from the above. :ross:

Shades of 2005 at the moment (reverse the roles tho).

Poms think they just have to turn up to win. Your preparation was ordinary and little spirit out there.

Aussies want to win this. Playing hard, maybe a little dirty. Some great banter out there at the end.

Mitchell Johnson, eh? Who'd have thought.

Oh and on the crowd, that's Queensland for you. The rednecks attention span barely survives to the second session. Adelaide, Perth and MCG will be massive.

Bit embarrassing though as it's your cup final and the stadium is three quarters empty ain't it? You lot down win much these days so you would have more convicts would have jumped at the chance to see an Aussie test win.

What do you mean YOUR cup final? It's both sides cup final or are you suggesting we are the West Ham to your Spurs and your Arsenal is really who, South Africa?

And I've already made a comment about the crowd. It's right there in the post you quoted.

I think things have got the better of you Jurgen. Best you followTrott's example and excuse yourself from posting for the rest of the series. No loss as your form is shocking.

In terms of it being your biggest sporting event. Don't get me wrong this series is big for us too, but it's bigger for your nation surely?

I'll post in this thread win, lose or draw. Have no problem admitting you battered us in this test. To be completely honest, 3-0 flattered us last summer and I did worry about this series before it started and I've seen nothing to change my mind. We've got too many players off form and there's no intent when we bat, kind of similar to Spurs in a way, we've become boring to watch.

Watching Australia win is nauseating though. When you lot play over here the crowd give you some stick and the players do also, but when we go over there EVERYBODY has a dig at the English, the crowd, the players, the media, it's quite amusing

Oh come on - are you suggesting that the english media don't have a field day when we play over there? Honestly?? It's the same in both countries, just the moaning is louder from your end.

Delightful seeing the comments about Clarke's sledging now that it's coming out that Anderson threatened to punch Bailey which was the catalyst for it all. Then Anderson has the nerve to sook to the umpires that Bailey bit back?? What a chump.

I'm so tired of Australians leaning on that crutch of disliking the English because of the media. Other than ex players like Botham, David Lloyd, Nasser Hussain etc who are enjoying the fact that we have overtaken you and like to rub it in, I think our media are more diplomatic than the Aussie media. When we won the last Ashes, most of the papers just focused on what Australia did wrong rather than praise us for some wonderful batting displays. You wanna talk about moaning? How about the ****storm Broad's non walk caused. Apart from Adam Gilchrist, which Australians are famous for walking? It's a form of cheating but everybody does it so I don't get why it riled Lehmann and the rest of Australia so much.

As for the sledging, no complaints. Anderson gives it so he has to take it when it's dished out. Although seeing Clarke trying to act tough was comical.

I actually think you're going to win the series so I'd best prepare myself for more gloating from you but it's all good fun

So Rory McIlroy has come out today and said "anyone but England" to win the Ashes. I wonder if people will still hold this against him in 7 years time like they do with Andy Murray.

He should spend more time worrying about his free falling golf career than who is winning the Ashes

Well the best golfer in the world at the moment is Australian, so maybe it's a case of if you can't beat em, join em.
