India v England: Channel 4 to broadcast tour for first live free-to-air Test coverage since 2005

Channel 4 will broadcast England's upcoming tour of India - marking the first live coverage of Test cricket on terrestrial television since the 2005 Ashes.

The first Test of the four-match series starts in Chennai on Friday.

On Monday, England were cleared to leave quarantine in India after the squad tested negative for Covid-19.

It will be the first full broadcast on terrestrial TV of an England overseas Test series.

Some sessions of the 1986-87 Ashes series in Australia were shown live on the BBC.

Last summer, highlights from England's home Tests and one-day internationals were broadcast on the BBC, with live coverage of two men's Twenty20 internationals and one women's T20 international.

England's Jofra Archer said he was pleased to see Test cricket returning to a wider audience, and thinks it will be especially important for children.

"Anyone you can inspire, it helps the next generation," said Archer. "It's good to have it back on a huge platform."

Talksport have ball-by-ball radio rights, while BBC Sport will have live text commentary each day on the BBC Sport website from 03:25 GMT, including discussion and analysis in the Cricket Social which starts at 06:30.

You're right it missed out another innings in Sri Lanka when England were chasing 70 odd

4 wickets down so far, good partnership forming for India though
...and NZ was several series ago, in 2019. Those look like his last 4 tons, not last 4 innings.

The Indian commentary we are given on channel 4 is hilarious. If you didn’t know the score you’d think India have been bossing it since the first ball of the test, when in fact it’s the complete opposite!

There is no way they are scoring 382 in a day on day 5 of a test match

You would think so but not the most threatening England attack, it annoys me when all the pundits and ex pros go on about declaring when none ever did when they played, I'm old enough to remember Gower setting Windies an unbeatable 350 odd target on last day at Lords and losing by 9 wickets

They did something similar against Australia in that final test, maybe not quite as high as 380 but still with their players anything is possible
Not sure on the Aussie pitch but on this one in it sounded like it would be tough to get anywhere near the target.

Next test will be different I think, a lot closer. Can’t help feeling our prep has been perfect whereas India looked a bit undercooked in their own conditions. Makes a nice change, Eng usually give the 1st test away due to this and have to play catch up.
