Lost by 120 runs, shame that as if Root couldve stayed in this morning we might have had a chance, Hazelton was superb throughout the test and Starc did his usual in destroying the tail

On to Perth where we've not won since 1978

5-0 here we come

Now that's the sort of record that needs breaking!

I did chuckle at the media spinning the idea of England pulling a win out of that Test. It was never going to happen; news outlets trying to breathe life into the corpse of a dead series, imho.

I do take your point, but I think it slightly undersells what really was a brave and dogged fightback on day 4. It's quite rare in my experience for England to mount that kind of (partial) recovery in recent times - we usually totally roll over in that type of situation (much more like on day 5). Perhaps that was why we all got a bit carried away...!

It goes against the grain of the situation, but I just wanted day 4 to carry on & on, because it's amazing how often a set batsman overnight will be dismissed early the next day, very much as Root was. All academic now of course...

Ben Duckett was dropped from Saturday's Ashes tour game after pouring a drink over England bowler James Anderson's head in a Perth bar.

The 23-year-old batsman, part of the England Lions squad, was due to play against a Cricket Australia XI as a number of the senior party were rested.

On Thursday, he was socialising with Lions and senior squad members, who were not under a curfew.

"It's trivial, but in the current climate not acceptable," said coach Trevor Bayliss.

Anderson, who has played in 131 Tests, is England's all-time leading wicket-taker and there is no suggestion the 35-year-old did anything wrong.

In September, England all-rounder and vice-captain Ben Stokes was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm after an altercation outside a Bristol nightclub.

Then, at the start of the Ashes tour, Jonny Bairstow was accused of 'head-butting' Australia's Cameron Bancroft in a Perth bar.

"Everyone has been warned about how even small things can be blown out of all proportion," added Bayliss.

"I'm disappointed. With what we have had to go through already with these problems, it is not acceptable."

Duckett has been suspended pending a disciplinary investigation that will be led by Lions coach Andy Flower.

"Andy will look after his player and if anything needs to be said or done with the first team, we'll handle that," added Australian Bayliss.

"I'm not sure what more I can say to the players. I'm sure there will be some stern words from above."

When asked if he is "fed up" about having to address off-field matters, Bayliss replied: "Very much so. I'm here to coach the team and I end up spending most of the time trying to explain behaviour that the boys have been warned about."

The latest indiscretion involving the England team is thought to have left management incredibly angry.

There is a feeling that trouble usually centres around the same small group of players and that they could pay with their place in the squad, even if that weakens the overall strength of the team.

"I might review who is in the team," said Bayliss. "They can't keep making the same mistakes.

"Most of the guys are fine, but somewhere along the line some of the guys have to pull their heads in."

Northants left-hander Duckett averages 15.71 in four Tests for England, the last of which was against India in November 2016.

He was replaced in the England team for the game at Richardson Park by Joe Clarke.

England are 2-0 down in the Ashes series and will relinquish the urn if they are beaten in the third Test in Perth, which begins on Thursday.

The Ashes squad had been placed under a curfew after the incident between Bairstow and Bancroft came to light during England's 10-wicket defeat in the first Test in Brisbane.

Though both Bairstow and Bancroft described the occurrence as "without malice", England's players were subsequently required to return to their hotel by midnight.

That curfew was lifted for the first time on the night of Duckett's indiscretion.

It is understood that no members of the public were involved and England team security were present.

This series is strange, everyone struggling to get into it from a fans point, even the Media are struggling. From my view its two teams on the poorer side than in recent years and there is not much between them, well I don't think anyway, couple of sessions either way.

What annoys me is this media hype on the bar incidents, Root and Bayliss can't be seen to play them down and have come out in attack mode but for me there is not much in the Duckett or Bairstow stuff, definitely paying the price for the Stokes incidents.

If i am going to be hyper critical of England I think we have got some of the selections wrong. Woakes only performs when it does not matter, his bowling in the 1st innings of the last match was abysmal and for me the 2nd innings 4 wickets were worthless, bit like how he performs in the warm ups and not when it matters. Add to that Broad who has gone predominately into his 78-82mph mode, used to rear its head in is prime but seems here to stay now.

Not a fan of all the trash talk on and off the pitch by any player.
But the australians like all the childish behaviour as they have shown in their various juvenile pressers as they revelled in the fallout. Where as personally I find it sad at best. Some people need to grow up...on both sides. The press are basically trashing the sport trying to find a story.

well played Malan and Bairstow, we needed that. I heard a stat earlier that the average score in the first innings is 320 at the Waca? sets us up nicely!

Was up at 6am as our old dog was unwell but forgot the cricket was on. turned on 6:15 and didn't move until 12pm incase I jinxed us! Great to see some fight from us!

3640/4 to 400 all out FFS

Overton has 2 fairly early though, he has done well, great length with his bowling unlike Woakes

Looks like normal service has been reverted to...shouldn't be saying that with us still 250 ahead, but it's starting to look ominous to me.

Really got to wonder about our selection for this tour. The deep batting line-up that we've become known for over the past year or two has vanished overnight, but at the same time our bowling attack looks so blunt in comparison to theirs. Obviously the conditions are alien to us but I just wonder if we couldn't have selected to better suit them - Plunkett for pace, for example.

Sissoko might have been a better selection than some who have travelled.
