Master of Puppets. One of the greatest metal albums ever.

Every single track is brilliant, and it even has an instrumental.

Back in Black for me.

It's just the way the draw went. We've got a few tough ones drawn together in the first round but I chose to kick off with this because it is the rounds glamour tie.

If they both get that far, Appetite For Destruction is due to meet Nevermind in the quarter final.

I might have to ***** out of that vote. Almost impossible to decide.

I voted AC/DC, never been that into Metallica. We'll see if that changes come June after I've been to my first Metallica concert.

I'm still undecided, metal is just about my biggest musical blind spot. Can someone sell me one of these albums?

what Jordinho says is normally a fair criticism of AC/DC, but in this case it really is a perfect album, there is no filler here, it was the first album with Johnson, soon after Scotts death and the considered wisdom was they would fade away, conversely they absolutely nailed it, it is both a homage to Scott and a filthy rhythm tour de force, it's the definition of AC/DC

Master is the album that arguably brought thrash mainstream (admittedly ride the lightning was unfairly ignored and IMO has equal highs), this was Metallica taking risks and subtly shifting style, an obvious step towards the Black album and Load of later years

it's a toss up really, I voted for BiB solely because AC/DC were never better, Metallica were

A tough one for me and like I said, one a little outside my musical comfort zone. I think that Back in Black has the better stand out tracks but Master of Puppets is more cohesive. Given that we are voting for the best album the more cohesive work wins over but it is a cheap vote from me because there are albums on this list where I know every note inside out but have never paid much attention to either of these albums before this week.

Yeah. I was aware that it was their first album with Johnson and obviously I know Back in Black and You Shook Me All Night Long. Great tracks. On a couple of listens it feels a bit patchy to me but I could be being unfair and it could be a grower.

Master Of Puppets every day of the week. AC/DC without Bon Scott? Give me a break. It's like saying that A Momentary Lapse Of Reason is the best Pink Floyd album, makes absolutely no sense.

Back in Black is a good album, with some very good songs. But it simply can't compare to Master of Puppets, where every song is absolutely bang on the money.
