The all new Striker thread..

I feel I’ll be in the minority here but I’d be happy with Deeney. Good plan B and seems to hate the gooners
I'm pretty sure he is actually a Gooner fan or his son is, but he certainly enjoys playing against them. I'd be happy with him as back up to be honest.

Not the worst option (that would be nobody or Llorente) but it is no more than a Saha-esque signing and would say everything about where we are at reputationally.

After 4 years of knowing we need a plan B striker to support or cover Harry when we have yet again run him into the ground and the answer is Troy Deeney? really? Not exacty a medium term plan for a serious Harry injury or when he goes somewhere else to win things.

Should be fixing the roof while the sun is shining - buying someone with a future and an actual upside at a reasonable price rather having to buy inflated because we have Harry cash or are desperate in 18 months time.

Sadly I don’t think “the sun is shining” due to covid!

Financially maybe but other clubs show that deals can be made.

The 'sun won't be shining' in any way shape or form, when deals have to be made when everyone knows we have £100million plus in our pocket from a Kane sale or when everyone knows we are desperate for a striker because Kane is broken.

And we will still sign a journeyman from a relegated club for an over-inflated fee then.

On the day the womens team sign the world's number one player (short-term loan etc) we are talking up Troy as an acceptable result? there are many worse outcomes but really?

I don't think that it would say much about our reputation. It would tell us a little about our finances but that wouldn't be unexpected when we are paying for a £1bn stadium with no money coming through the tills.

I think that it is best to judge our transfers as a whole, at the end of the window. So far we have addressed the obvious gaps and signed players better than what we had in that position. Deeney wouldn't be my first choice but he would fit with that. If it leaves us with money to spend elsewhere, then that needs to be taken into consideration. Deeney plus Daka, for instance, would leave us quite strong up top and give us a range of options and allow Daka time to settle.

I’d much rather Milik, but he’s better than most of the others we have been linked with.

He’d be underwhelming but reliable, possibly a good voice in the squad too, he knows how lucky he is to still be a PL footballer.

The only good thing I can see about Deeney is he would be a good sub for Harry in games we had in the bag, this would ease the burden on Kane of having to play virtually 90 mins every game, but I wouldn't see him being a player having to play 3 games in a row as a starter.

Deeney isn’t very good and we have to think bigger than him. Mourinho has come out and said he doesn’t want a striker who is going to worry about game time because of Kane, Son etc he wants someone who is confident in his ability to challenge them. Does that sound like Deeney to you? Fair enough if all of our targets don’t come off for whatever reason, but I doubt he would be anything more than a last minute deadline day better than no one signing.....

Are there truly no strikers that are willing to come to Spurs? Janssen came and after that we have had zilch in signing young strikers to partner Kane. None want to come even on loan?
