The all new Juniors/on-loan thread 2013/14

Agreed, very good comments from Ferdinand.

Although we conceded as a result of it I'm glad to see our youth team play a somewhat high risk, daring, strategy where we play it out from the back. Results now isn't the important thing, how the players develop is the important thing.

About that Carroll video posted, is he starting to look a bit stronger?

I'd say he is, certainly isn't afraid tof putting his foot in against larger opponents. Did'nt see any instances of him getting knocked off the ball, but then I guess those wouldn't have been included

So Carroll got MOTM last week and now doesn't even start against Burnley. Injury or does Harry not trust the lad for this game? Currently they are losing after BAE made a shocking mistake.

Edit: Am I the only one that despairs at some of the play in the Championship?? Just seen a Burnley player lunge in two footed studs showing (think Flamini on Corluka but without the run up) and not one person batted an eye lid. It had the potential to do some damage and yet the ref and players just carried on. Any top league in the world and the ref would've been on top of that.

FT - Spurs 3-1 Norwich U18s

Goals from Goddard, Sonupe and Georgiou as the lads overturn half-time deficit to claim the points

Spurs U18s 3-1 Norwich U18s

Goals from Cy Goddard, Emmanuel Sonupe and Anthony Georgiou saw our Under-18s overturn a 1-0 half-time deficit to claim a 3-1 victory at home to Norwich City on Saturday lunchtime.

Norwich had taken the lead on the stroke of half-time through Lewis Byrne-Hewitt, but we stormed back in the second half to claim the points in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League.

Academy Manager John McDermott rotated his squad, making 10 changes from the side that lost to Fulham in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday night – only centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers retained his place in the starting 11.

The first period was played out in tough, windy conditions – neither side able to get a clear foothold in the game.

A series of short free-kicks came to nothing for us, while debutant Joe Muscat went down in the Norwich 18-yard box only for the referee to wave play on in spite of an appeal for a penalty.

Georgiou looked lively down the left wing and in the 20th minute his cross looked destined to find the head of centre-forward Daniel Akindayini, but Norwich left-back Ben Wyatt stood his ground and Akindayini was unable to reach the ball.

The Canaries tried their luck by sending a handful of crosses into the box from the right flank – the first being turned away for a corner by Kane Vincent-Young, the second being headed wide by Rhys Browne at the far post and the third evading everyone and going behind for a goal-kick.

Luke Amos reacted quickest to clear Harrison Heath’s left-sided free-kick, while Georgiou crashed a shot wide at the other end as the first half approached its conclusion.

Seconds before the whistle, however, the visitors took the lead when Byrne-Hewitt got away from our defence and slotted low into the corner beyond goalkeeper Harry Voss.

It was a disappointing end to the first period, but the lads emerged confidently for the resumption and it took Goddard eight minutes of the second half to find a leveller. Muscat made a good run from midfield and rolled Goddard in behind, the latter clipping the ball beyond Norwich keeper Ben Killip.

Emmanuel Sonupe livened things up further following his introduction from the bench and it was he who put us in front on the hour mark, latching onto a fantastic cross-field pass from Carter-Vickers and advancing down the right before smashing home. Keeper Killip got his hands to the ball, but was unable to keep it out.

A through ball from Amos ran beyond Akindayini five minutes later, while Norwich saw a good chance to restore parity go begging when Michee Efete sent a free header wide at the back post following Wyatt’s cross from the left.

Henry Randall dragged a shot across the face of goal and wide for Norwich and with 73 minutes on the watch we effectively sealed the deal, Sonupe’s low cross from the right being turned home at the far post by Georgiou.

Randall squandered a couple of chances for Norwich in the last quarter of an hour – with a Sonupe snap shot that flew wide and a fast-paced attack down Norwich’s right by Efete which came to nothing sandwiched in between.

Coulibaly keeps getting game time doesn't he? I've noticed he hardly ever scores so I hope the rest of his game is evolving..

FT: Spurs 0-0 Everton

Grabbed the report off the official site. I thought Coulthirst was out on loan at Leyton Orient??

Our Under-21s were held to a goalless draw by Everton in the Barclays U21 Premier League at Bishop's Stortford FC on Monday night.

We struck the woodwork twice through Souleymane Coulibaly and Laste Dombaxe and the excellent Harry Kane was denied by the save of the night from Mason Springthorpe in the Everton goal, a fantastic reaction stop to his right to turn away a piledriver in the second half. Had one of those efforts found the net, you felt we'd have gone on to win the game.

Jordan Archer also excelled when called into action as the Toffees created a few chances, most notably a save in each half from Luke Garbutt and Joe Williams.

The first half burst into life from the off with four chances inside the opening 10 minutes.

We had three, with Coulibaly striking the post from 25 yards after three minutes before heading wide from Kenny McEvoy's cross. Kane then fired just wide from 25 yards.

In-between, at the other end, Hallam Hope latched onto a loose ball in the box, only to prod wide from close range.

Archer was called into action on 16 minutes, a full-stretch tip over from Luke Garbutt's dipper, but the goalkeeper could do little when George Green drilled to the far post five minutes later, this time Dominic Ball got back to clear off the line.

Both teams looked to attack at pace and Kane went close again on the half-hour, a clever glancing header from Shaq Coulthirst's cross forced a fine save from Springthorpe, who backpeddled to palm the ball wide.

The next 15 minutes were slightly quieter and the final chance of the half fell to Coulibaly after good work from Kane and Coulthirst, his low shot from close range deflected just wide with Springthorpe beaten.

Laste Dombaxe replaced Zeki Fryers at half-time and stepped into midfield with Alex McQueen shifting to left-back and Aaron McEneff back to right-back.

We had the first chance of the half on 56 minutes as Milos Veljkovic worked a short corner with McEvoy, his cross cleared to Ball, who powered his header wide from 16 yards.

Kane lashed wide from 30 yards after taking Coulibaly's knockdown in his stride and then forced a fine save from Springthorpe on 70 minutes. Breaking from deep, Kane used McEvoy's run to open up space and blasted at goal from the edge of the box, but Springthorpe was equal to it.

McEvoy's pace caught the eye as time ticked away and Kane looked a constant threat, his next effort on 78 minutes deflected and dipped just over. From the corner, the ball was cleared to Dombaxe, who ripped a full volley that clipped the top of the crossbar.

We made a double switch with 10 minutes remaining, Darren McQueen and Ruben Lameiras on for Gallifuoco and Coulibaly and a tactical switch to three at the back, searching for the winner.

Archer made a fine save low down to his right to deny Williams in a rare Everton attack and from the corner, Matthew Pennington headed just wide.

The last chance arrived in the final seconds, Garbutt left a backpass short and Coulthirst chased it down but Springthorpe just got there first to clear.

Spurs U21s: Archer; A McQueen, Ball, Gallifuoco (D McQueen, 79), Fryers (Dombaxe, 46); McEneff, Veljkovic; Kane; Coulibaly (Lameiras, 79), Coulthirst, McEvoy. Unused subs: McGee.

Everton: Springthorpe, McLaughlin, Garbutt, Ledson, Pennington, Browning, Green (McAleny, 59), Williams, Hope (Charsley, 76), Kennedy, Duffus (Touray, 90+2). Unused subs: Griffiths, Langton.

U18s now at home - John previews Fulham test

John McDermott has paid tribute to his counterparts at Fulham for switching Saturday’s Under-18s match to our Training Centre.

We were due to be away in the Barclays Under-18s Premier League, but waterlogged pitches at the Cottagers’ Motspur Park facility have seen the match moved.

John, our Academy Manager, is conscious of the backlog of fixtures facing us – and is thankful that Saturday’s game can now go ahead.

“Their pitch is struggling down there and I think they’d just rather get their players playing and give up home advantage, so all credit to them for doing that,” John said.

“I’d like to think we’d have done the same in a similar situation.”

Fulham, like ourselves, are enjoying a tremendous season in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League and currently sit in top spot, three points above us – although we have a game in hand.

We lost 3-2 to the Cottagers in the FA Youth Cup last week, while we battled to a 2-2 draw in our previous domestic meeting back in November.

But as we get set for another contest, John has played down any talk of the title race being seriously affected by Saturday’s result.

“There’s loads more games left,” John explained. “There’s Under-21 games coming up , there’s tournaments and we’ve got players going away.

“Youth football isn’t like first team football. We’re hoping that players might move up or get a loan or train with the first team. There’s so many other permutations thrown into youth football that don’t exist with senior football that I think to say this is a title decider is wrong and irrelevant.

“At the moment, from the games we’ve played, there’s a draw and one win to them. We know it’s going to be a tight game and hopefully the weather conditions that are being forecast don’t actually come.

“It’s a category A game in terms of quality tomorrow – hopefully it will be of a similar quality to our previous two and with the rub of the green hopefully we’ll do well.”

We really should be going all out for Joe Gomez at Charlton just 17 but looks so good I am so certain this guy will go on to play for England and be one of the best in Europe, we need to be signing the likes of him before they get to well known and command to higher a fee to make a punt on them risky.

Think we waited to long with the like of Lee Hughes at Derby but Gomez is still gettable.
