I wouldn't read too much into that. Vertonghen didn't start as he wasn't there for training because of internationals. Kaboul and Gallas had trained together all week.

Perhaps the midfield chosen against Saudi Sportswashing Machine had more training time together.

Sandro? Man may have a point.

I'll cry if VDV leaves. Hudd, Dawson, VDV, Modric (probably), Saha (8-[). FFS sake the team is being ripped apart. Too much too soon Andre!!!

What did your mate text you? Have we signed Damiao? ITK! Watch as I proceed to put Damiao in my line-up for West Brom! Yay! \o/

Haha! My team includes Damiao, Willian, M'Villa and Lloris!! I did have a mate text me last week as it happens, was pretty strong we were signing Sessegnon. While he is well placed he has never, on any occassion, gotten any transfer activity correct. It is basically a guessing game, so roll on next week!

i'd be happy with likes of dembele, sessegnon, nathan dyer and victor moses for now. we don't need to win the EPL, we just need to get into top 4 again.

Lyon want to keep Lloris

Tottenham must improve offer if they want goalkeeper

By Patrick Haond. Last Updated: August 22, 2012 3:13pm

Lacombe, who serves as special advisor to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, reckons the 25-year-old is "less hot" for a transfer to White Hart Lane now the French season is under way.

But he admits things could change if Spurs sell Luka Modric to Real Madrid and then return to Lyon with an improved offer for the France shot-stopper.

Lacombe told French radio station RMC regarding Lloris: "He should stay at Lyon and not join Tottenham.

"Until the transfer window closes, you never know. If Modric goes to Madrid, things may move forward.

Valuation

"But as he has started the Championship, Hugo is less hot to leave. He wants to continue at Lyon.

"We hope so, unless there is a very important proposal for him and for us. Their (Tottenham's) proposal was well below our valuation for our goalkeeper."

Lyon, meanwhile, have also ruled out the possibility of letting Clement Grenier move to Nice after Yoann Gourcuff was sidelined for up to three months with a knee injury.

But the club admit defender Aly Cissokho, who has in the past been linked with Saudi Sportswashing Machine among a host of Premier League clubs, could leave.

If the 24-year-old does move on, Lyon would look to sign Nice's Fabian Monzon in a swap deal for Jeremy Pied.

Lacombe said: "There is a good chance for Aly to leave. If Aly leaves, we could hire Fabian Monzon to replace him."

QPR target Jermain Defoe deal as Tottenham chase Leandro Damião

David Hytner

guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 22 August 2012 12.37 BST

Jermain Defoe's future at Tottenham Hotspur remains uncertain as the club pushes to sign the long-term target Leandro Damião of Internacional, despite having completed the permanent transfer of Emmanuel Adebayor for £5.5m from Emirates Marketing Project.

QPR, who have agreed a £9m deal with Tottenham for the defender Michael Dawson, are interested in taking Defoe, who has previously played in London for Charlton Athletic and West Ham United.

André Villas-Boas has said that he wants three strikers this season to compete for the one starting berth in his 4-3-3 formation, with the third being the 19-year-old Harry Kane.

The manager's rationale is that it can be problematic to have too many established players fighting for a single place, with the third choice, inevitably, left to feel frustrated at his lack of sufficient minutes.

Defoe does not appear to be a natural fit for the lone striker role in a 4-3-3 and he and his agent have already had talks with Villas-Boas this summer to discuss the situation.

Villas-Boas has said the right things in public about the England international, who contributed 17 goals for Tottenham last season and scored in their opening day defeat at Saudi Sportswashing Machine on Saturday, but if the club can finalise the pursuit of Damião, the Brazil No9, then Defoe might find himself surplus to requirement.

Villas-Boas has tracked Damião throughout the summer and Tottenham have sent a representative to Porto Alegre in an attempt to secure the player's €20m signing. Damião impressed for Brazil during the Olympic Games in London. Tottenham are also interested in the Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Willian.

Villas-Boas's squad rebuild is taking shape, with Tom Huddlestone loaned to Stoke City for the season and Sébastien Bassong having joined Norwich City on a permanent basis.

The manager remains open to offers for Heurelho Gomes, David Bentley, Jermaine Jenas, Giovani dos Santos and Rafael van der Vaart while Luka Modric's proposed transfer to Real Madrid continues to drag.

Dawson has been moved on as Villas-Boas considers him to lack mobility and to be behind Younes Kaboul, William Gallas, Jan Vertonghen and Steven Caulker in the central defensive pecking order.

He used Dawson as the club captain during pre-season, following Ledley King's retirement, as he was the "reference" point from last season, when he was the vice-captain, but Villas-Boas said last Thursday that he would not announce his captain for the season until the transfer window had neared its end and he had "a better idea of the players that stay with us and come in". Dawson's departure, as such, had been advertised.

Club claim to have had enquiries for Chelsea, Spurs & Man Utd target

Borussia Dortmund claim to have turned down numerous enquiries for star striker Robert Lewandowski, who has been linked with a number of Premier League sides this summer.

The 24-year-old Poland international netted 30 goals for the Bundesliga champions last season and put in some impressive performances for his country at Euro 2012.

Dortmund have made it clear they are desperate to keep Lewandowski at the club, and sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed they have rejected various approaches.

“There have been enquiries from several clubs,” Zorc told Bild.

“Our position has not changed since March - Lewandowski still plays at Dortmund.”

The club’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has backed Zorc’s stance, saying: “There were other clubs interested in him.

“I am repeating myself but Lewandowski will play next season for Dortmund,” added Watzke.

I love it how all these teams are going to great lengths to tell the media that they are not selling certain players.
Chelsea have said they are not buying anyone else in this window, Utd already have 5 strikers so it sounds like Dortmund are begging Spurs to make a bid!

Yep, its similar to Harrys pro-active denials in the press of any interest in another team's player. Players arent loyal to clubs though, neither are managers so no real reason for clubs to be loyal to players
