Summer 2018 transfer thread

Tierney really looks like an exciting prospect. He has pace to burn and would fit into our wingback formation easily.

Youtube makes him look like the Scottish Bale.
Tiernay is top notch make no mistake about it

Whoever gets him has a top young player who will get better and better

He is wat Shaw was supposed to be

Entered race, entered race, entered race. Jesus, at least mix it up a bit. We've been in and out for so many of these so many times, it's difficult to get too excited about anything. That rabiot fellow sounds like a bit of a donkey though, so no thanks.

MAHREZ SET FOR LEICESTER

Riyad Mahrez looks set to complete his long awaited move to Emirates Marketing Project later this week.

Sky Sports News has learnt that Leicester will receive around £60m – some way short of their £80m asking price in January.

We believe that all major aspects of the deal have been agreed and barring any last minute hitches, the Algerian winger will undergo a medical in Manchester towards the end of this week.

The majority of Leicester’s players reported back for pre-season training yesterday. However, Mahrez and his Algerian team-mate Islam Slimani are not due back until next week, having played in an international friendly on June 7.

I see the sub-editor was on a bender all weekend with that headline.

I can't see it. It looks like both Rose and Sessegnon are staying put for another 12 months at least.

It's just made-up nonsense to fill the void

Still believe Rose will leave for United. I just think both parties are keeping a low profile on it for now whilst he's at the World Cup. Also wonder if his slightly fragile state of mind right now has led his advisors / FA advisors to ward off suitors until after the tournament, allow him to focus on England and family etc etc.

I think its simpler than that.

The World Cup is on.

Same as with Alderweireld, nothing has changed to suggest he is/isnt going aside from the media going quiet on it.

Once England/Belgium are out of the cup it will all start coming to prominence again.

IF either was on the move before, what has changed? Nothing. Except once they are out of the cup they are then free to actually pursue the move.

GOMES TO ARSENAL?

Unai Emery wants to bring Barcelona’s Andre Gomes to Arsenal, according to The Independent.

The Gunners new head coach is reportedly willing to agree to the sales of other players to bring in the midfielder.

On the face of it Arsenal appear to be doing a lot of crap business. Emery is either a genius, or they are overpaying for a lot of crap players

MARTINS SET FOR LAZIO?

Lazio are hoping to beat off competition to sign Gelson Martinsfrom Sporting Lisbon, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The 23-year-old, who was also a strong target for Arsenal, Evertonand Real Betis, is a free agent this summer after terminating his contract with Sporting Lisbon due to safety concerns

Lazio are believed to have offered the player €2.5m a year, plus bonuses.

Still no mention of complications with Sporting about the cancellation of his contract...

Would love it if they spent a bunch of money on Gomes... if for no other reason, to guarantee that he won't sign for us. He has been absolute brick for both his seasons at Barca and isn't even in a thin Portugal squad. Barca seriously overpaid for him after two solid, but seriously overrated years at Valencia. He's nowhere near a 30 million pound player, and hopefully he becomes the next in line of mediocre players Arsenal has signed this summer.

EDIT: Forgot about the Uruguayan lad. He looks like a decent signing. 1 out of 3 so far for Emery.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Spurs have £27m offer ready for Benfica full-back Alex Grimaldo

Tottenham have £27million held back for the purchase of Alex Grimaldo from Benfica, according to reports.

Grimaldo, the left-back, has represented Portuguese giants Benfica since 2016, when he left Barcelona having failed to make a senior appearance for the Camp Nou club.

The 22-year-old starred for Barca’s B team, and has been one of the best performers in Portugal since his transfer to the Estadio da Luz.

His form for Benfica has earned admiration from across Europe, and Spurs have prepared an offer from the young left-back.

According to Record, Tottenham have ‘reserved’ around £27m (€30m) for Grimaldo, while Borussia Dortmund, of Germany, are also said to be interested.

Tottenham have not yet submitted their offer for Grimaldo, and it appears Mauricio Pochettino is holding off from making a move until Danny Rose’s future has been decided.

Rose, the England international, has been linked with leaving north London this summer – potentially for Manchester United – and Grimaldo is considered a replacement for the 28-year-old.

Also, I think Arsenal's transfer business is a good reminder for us to be patient and an indication of where we are as a club. Yes, they've got three signings through the door early, and maybe up to five when you add Gomes and Torriera, but how many of those guys would get into our first XI or even in our 18-man matchday squad? From what I've read, Torriera could maybe do a job of our bench or challenge Wanyama/Dier, but none of those other guys would get anywhere near our team.

I can get why Liverpool's business makes some fans nervous, but I'd rather wait to get the right guys than just bring in someone to bring in someone.
