Steffen Freund new International Technical Coordinator

Would Freund have coached any of the current crop of young German stars, those now in the National team?
I'm thinking he might have some useful contacts for us somewhere down the line.

He coached their under 16s and 17s so he must have surely coached the likes of Mario Gotze for example.

He was assistant coach for the U-20s in 2007-2009 before taking charge of the U-16s and U-17s. From the U-20 squad at the 2009 youth world cup there are only the the two Bender brothers really.

Christian Ziege is currently the German U-18 coach.

HAs he worked with Samed Yesil?

A classic Freund memory is of him celebrating a Ziege goal up at Sunderland (I think). Ziege scored the most outrageous wind-assisted goal and Freund ran at full pelt towards him in celebration, chest barging him so hard that Ziege flew sideways!

My first proper experience of Freund, soon after he arrived at the club, was during a Premier League game up at Hillsborough. We won a corner at the away end and he went into a frenzy of arm waving, fist pumping, turning red in the face and all other manner of exhortations to get the away crowd stoked up.

It worked too! Got us stoked up, that is......................we didn't score from the corner, of course. Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

Nevertheless, I think it was the moment that marked the beginning of Freund's legendary status.

That interview genuinely made me a bit teary eyed, seems like a tremendously bloke and you can tell he loves the club

My first ever Spurs match, he pulled a kid onto the pitch to warm up with him. fudge I was jealous.

from last night.....

In keeping everything simple, Villas-Boas buys time from the press and patience from the fans. In fact, the only lingering concern would be for the well-being of new assistant manager, Steffan Freund, after he almost inadvertently knocked himself out while embracing goalkeeping coach Tony Parks pre-game.

:ross:

Re: Steffen Freund new assistant head coach

I love him !!!

His celebrations were like we had won the treble haha

Brilliant..

Apparently he was singing the Nicola Berti song with the fans in the car park after the game
