Spurs v Monaco OMT

As highlighted earlier despite playing poorly in a lot of league games we are In a very good position still

Chelsea are okaying well but having actually beaten any of the sides around them so let's see.

We're struggling with confidnce on and off the pitch and injuries too - kinda like they were before we played them last season

The did say this last season and I'll say it every time we have people complaining. This sky footballs enemy xcatly what I thought could happen after the euros and Olympics with so many players at it and a lot suffering from over expectations and under achievement

Poch has been managing roughly 8 years - that's single figures and he is still leaning in the job

Tonight was some big bad calls from him but he has generally shown he has learnt from his errors and doesn't repeat them often

He has earnt some breathing space IMO and needs it now

it is what it is. i wont mind going out of the CL if Poch does something with it. i dont think he have played out best fit 11 at any stage of the CL this season, he is always resting someone. He has done it all the way through his tenure at Spurs.

As strong as our squad may be on paper you cant be going away to Monaco in a must win and play Dier, Winks, Trippier over Verts, Walker and and experienced CM (take your pick from Sissoko, Eriksen or the fast winger). fudge the Chelsea game, that will pick itself 1600 Saturday, not 1900 Tuesday night.

Maybe you are right, I remember some of the bricke that was posted on here after the Saudi Sportswashing Machine defeat
Funnily enough I didn't actually see that match. I rarely ever miss a match but there was some event (I can't remember what now) that I couldn't get out of, but just seeing the scores coming in on my phone was bad enough. I decided to steer clear of the forum for a while after that.

Edit: I still haven't seen Chelsea lift the CL trophy either. Never happened as far as I'm concerned.

Are you for real? FFS I gotta be honest I expected better from you.

This feels like things are very slowly going downhill. I can take us going out of the CL, but actively fielding a weakened side?? I mean it's those kind of 'WTF' moments that start to plague the beginning of the end of a manager's reign, when he starts to not actually seem to know what to do, or what he wants to do.

And no i am not saying #pochout, but i am asking if our 'krypton factor' is showing its limitations and Pochettino is struggling to be more inventive (in a football coaching sense).
The fact that most of the players are not even doing the basic tenets of his reign (the 'press') now makes me wonder...

Could not agree more with this from Paul O Keefe:
'I'm a big fan of Poch but to come straight out with we need to add quality is poor form. Desire and effort are free'

I think after reading the above quotes from BT Sport i have to ask you if you can post a link to those quotes from Paul O'Keefe and where he got them from...they don't add up..at least i hope Paul O'Keefe has made them up/misquoted Poch..

I saw his post interview and he said something along the lines of the team not showing enough quality (in his broken English).

I couldnt agree more. Unfortunately, i think tonight may be the last time i sit down to watch or go to Spurs in a very long time. If we are going to field weakened teams in the biggest games we play then following this club isnt for me. Ive got better things to do with my time than to watch a half arsed effort. Im sure Poch has his reasons but id rather have given it everything tonight and lost 6-0 sat that clueless brick, jack of all trades master of fudge all, that was on show tonight. I was massively fudged off when he did the same thing in the second half of last season. He would send out 70/80% strength teams every week to try and win everything rather than 100% teams on the games he needed to win and 60/70% of the games that didnt really matter.

I think it's a sign of the times. I read or heard somewhere that the most important thing each season is to qualify (or re-qualify) for the champs league. Regardless of whether u are in it for the first time in ages or you have a chance of winning a weakish group it doesn't matter, the single most important thing on the agenda for any non-super club is to gain top 4 again, therefore prioritising premier league over champs league. I guess that's why we've seen the main full backs regularly in the league but not the CL.

Fwiw I'm actually a bit panicked at the moment. We've completely lost our identity from last season. Players have lost form, new signings aren't performing, too many changes at the back. People can say knee jerk or point to our unbeaten run but I don't need to see a few defeats to realise things aren't going according to plan. I'd say it's pretty obvious. Extremely worried to meet an in form Chelsea on Saturday.

I am glad we fielded a weakened team this evening, as much as I hate to say it we have to follow Arsenals lead and make sure we qualify for the champions league each year, by doing so we earn money and also take away the chance of one of our rivals being in it thus weakening them in the process.

Actualy getting out of the group stages of the Champions league is a complete irrelevance for the next few years, what we need is the champs league money so we can add quality players to the squad, though our summer signings make me wonder whether we will actually do that, but that should be the philosophy we follow.

It is about gradual progression and we are getting there. I hope we play the kids in the last group game and dont make Europa league so can focus on the League. If we get top 4 again this year we will weaken one of our rivals even more, this is important.

I can not get away that apart from Wanamya our summer signings are not of a good enough standard, also we need to make sure CCV and Wimmer play enough so that when they come in they are ready to play and also we need to either promote full backs from the youth team and also a striker who likes scoring.

I guess you have to take into account this is Poch's first foray into the CL as well. He will have learned some hard lessons from tonight (and the other nights). One of them maybe that you have to go all-in in these games.

Did he actually say that? If so, b*llocks, Poch. B*llocks. Levy gave you a net f*cking spend, my man. Something he didn't do for six years prior to this summer, and something he didn't do for Harry Redknapp (our most successful manager of recent times), AVB (who achieved our record points total) and, well, Sherwood (who sort of stood there looking smarmy in his gillet).

You don't get to complain about the tools you've been given after that. Not so soon after that, in any eventuality. Seriously, bad form, Poch.
Poch achieved a higher league finish than both those managers and sustained a serious title challenge for longer, with a squad assembled at a fraction of the price. He is the only Spurs Manage to have qualified for the Champs league proper through his league finish. He has earned that net spend which when you take into account the impending sale of Bentaleb is likely to only be around 17million and he has earned the support of the fans to figure this out. Talk of this being "the start of the end" is simply an over reaction. He definitely needs to improve our European performances but he has done better in the PL than any Spurs manager and to get rid now would be extreme folly.

This was a cup final basically, in terms of needing a win to progress in the competition and none of our outfield players looked liked they cared enough. This is probably the most disappointed I've ever been watching a spurs game. If they had shown some guts and some effort and we'd still lost I could live with it, but there seemed to be no desire.

I think it's the opposite. Young team with players not game sharp in their position feeling too much pressure, guilty of playing the occasion not the game?
