Son Heung-Min

As for Son it's funny, I didn't see Tel having any issues coming inside and getting his shot away - just as he has done in previous games. The fact is Son no longer has the speed to do it, and like it or lump it that is not on Ange and Son has just regressed massively over the past two seasons....

Unfortunately, I didn't see the full match.

I am wondering though whether we are starting to see the Son-Tel transition in our team. As we get to the semi-final it will be interesting to see which fans will advocate for Sonny starting on the left and which ones want Tel to be rewarded for his efforts. 5 starts and 2 goals.

This is all positive for me. Ange having selection dilemmas and a worst case having two players to use in the 90 mins. With Odobert, there are 3 players for the left forward channel.

But it is on Ange for not realizing this is the case and continuing to play him on the wing when he's just not suited to that role anymore and especially not in the Ange system.
Yes but I would say to be fair to Ange I think it's more about options he has had. As soon as Odobert signed, that very first game two or three days after he started at LW not Son. Then Odobert got injured, and you are back to choices of Son/Werner//Moore. Moore is not ready as much as our fans want to think he is, and Werner is Werner. So completely get Son playing there, since Odobert has been back and now with Tel Son has been rotated more.

Personally I would have Tel ahead of Son or Odobert right now for the EL games ( I don't think he will be playing half the first choice in PL games now) as he is growing into the role, and looks quite a balanced partnership with him and Udogie - Tel cutting inside and Udogie hugging the touchline(@Muttley my answer to your question)....

I can't give him any allowance on Werner, he saw what he was last season during the half season loan and still decided to sign for entirety of this one. That Werner is predictably failing and not a useful option is no excuse and is for a black mark against Ange. I'd argue that Moore could have been given more minutes before the virus took hold but on that one I'll defer to Ange as only he knows his true readiness status.

Between Odobert and Tel I don't know who I prefer. Up till now I'd say Odobert has had more good appearances but still very few and he doesn't suit the right at all. Tel had a very promising performance against Frankfurt and looked the model of a Son replacement but it's literally one game where he's looked anything other mediocre. Its not a bad place to be to have the two of them during it out for a starting place. The shame is that we have nothing on the opposite side.

One thing that Son’s drop off has made people finally realise that our forwards are pretty bang average. Even as recently as last season people were saying our forwards were as good as Arsenal’s, Liverpool’s and Saudi Sportswashing Machine’s. They are lower mid table standard and we need at least 2 in the summer.

Postecoglou gave more information about Son's injury, via Football.London's Alasdair Gold:

"Not really sure, something he's been dealing with for a while and we got to a point where it wasn't improving and it was deteriorating. So it's a good time to give him a bit of a rest."

Overused 33 year old ... it's Anges call and he is poor st squad rotation, only always reacting when something happens.

Crazy. Son has been flogged to death, while constantly playing at less than 100% and putting in poor performances and yet we have Odobert, Tel, Moore and whoever else that can play there

Why have a physio team if our view point is just keep playing injured players until they can't play???

Why have a manager who keeps playing someone who isn't very good and for so long in matches.

Didn't Son do this a while back and needed surgery? If it weren't him it was someone.

All thi sport science with numbers and people being optimal and we just ignore it? Good to know

Why do you think Ange kicked off about the medical staff and we replaced a load of them? They kept advising him to rest players and he wouldn’t, they probably said “i told you so” when a player got a long term injury and he spat his dummy out.

Give it a rest, flimflam stats again, he literally doesn’t run, doesn’t track back, doesn’t take on a man, loses it almost every time he tries to do something and also has a bad touch nowadays. Stats don’t tell the full story, watching him every week does.
yeah but who is going to provide the assists/big chances? odobert? johnson? maddison? we don't have son now and have a full team and we are still not winning games

not tracking back is an ange thing. porro, udogie, johnson, odobert don't track back either.

The simple way I see it is that Sonny should never start 2 games in a week. He wouldn't have done either if we hadn't have had the injuries this season.

A fresh Sonny is a menace. A fatigued Sonny isn't worth a starting shirt.
