So, what happened today?

I've stumbled into the annual fudge everyone/punk festival. A few beers and then I'm off home.

Eat the rich? Nice. I used to love that while living up there.

I got sick of my neighbor downstairs singing like a drunken sailor last night - howling like a fudging wolf at one o clock - so went down and told her to shut the fudge up. No, I just kindly asked her to keep it down. She was very clearly very drunk and embarrassed. She’s bitching about everything to everyone in here, so felt good to knock her a bit too though, got to admit.

Also talked to my divorced neighbor’s brother who’s really friendly but also quite weird, who rang my door to tell me he had taken my trash out, while adding “my sister says you’re a really nice guy” with this insanely intense look on his face, haha.

The joys of living in an apartment building, ey.

You have to (sadly) monetise it mate. And tbh it's not such a bad approach as life is gonna be a long stretch of just that for her ie paid for labour.

We've also got ours (13) running eBay and vinted accounts to shift on the stuff we don't want. She gets to keep 100% of her own stuff income and 40% of anything that's 'ours' . She does the parcel packing and trips to PO (which also give us the chance to get her to grab other bits from the local shops:))
Also getting her to design some bits for work (she loves a bit of art, photography and digital design) ...all paid work of course. (Mates rates ;))
She works and earns £9 an hour so isn't going to do jobs at home for £1 or £2
We tried it and she said she doesn't need the money

my very first job at 13 i got 40 quid a week & my parents took 10 how things have changed.
Similar to me. Didn’t get paid anywhere near that though lol.

No pocket money and I had to pay my own bus fare to school.

Two paper rounds, and four hours gardening on a Saturday morning. I must have been exhausted now I think about it - during my A levels I worked from 5-10 every night. FFS. Had No time for anything!

Sounds like a lot of money but at 13 I pretty much left school. By 14 I was working full time for the same money. I used to make moulds for false teeth

My parents were not happy about it but I hated school & they decided if I was not going I should get a job. i don't think I turned out to bad considering my lack of qualifications. life teaches you more than school ever will

Just got back for holiday to find the new neighbours have out in an outline planning request to build a 4 bed house in their back garden
They have mentioned it before but it was a small bungalow… this thing has floor to ceiling windows and they also want a 6m high double garage on our boundary line
Gonna be fun with all the comments we will need to issue and won’t be good for neighbourly relations
Weird thing is I can’t even find them as the owners on land registry …. And they have been there since October

Oof. We have 2 good friends in our village, who lived next door to each other.
They even started a business together.
One had the largest garden I've ever seen.
They built a 4 bed house on it and moved in, and sold the first house.

They are no longer friends; they are sworn enemies.
Which is not great in a village.

I'm doing the opposite!
We got my 13 year old a job at a friend's company.
£8/hour for 6 hours = £50 rounded up.
Working 2 or 3 days per week in the summer holidays.
I told him if he behaves well around the house and is respectful and generally pleasant, I will match it, thus £100 per day. IF HE IS NICE.

He wants a brand new gaming PC and brand new bike with full suspension, everything he wants costs thousands, so at least this way he is working towards it and contributing.

I'll end up buying him stuff for birthday/Christmas anyway, so this way at least he contributes and learns that hard work = good stuff.

Wait a minute. You were making moulds for false teeth at 14. How does that work?

They've probably just gone down the usual ask for more than you know they'll permit route then scale back to get it over the line...And all you've done is get what you really wanted in the first place ie the bungalow

We have no issue with these guys but what they want is basically a car lot and huge windows
I think they have missed a trick in not talking to us and others before submitting because the family of Drs at the back will be most affected dnd they didn’t even know the house had changed hands
