So, what happened today?

For me there is a much bigger agenda at play here and perhaps the trans community are the first cross section of people to feel the slight change in direction.

The agenda is to do with "positive bias". We know our history came with inequality and inequity but you do not solve it by implementing more of the same but the other way round. If you artificially give these groups the priority then the pendulum swings too far the other way and eventually you're going to get massive push back.

You can pick many examples of where positive bias is in play in our lives. Obviously recruitment in the workplace is one place where it is very prevalent. I'm sure most of us have seen the best candidate get overlooked for a role, seen the HR box get ticked and then see the disenfranchisement of other company employees.

Rightly or wrongly, I actually think you're going to see many more examples of push back on positive bias in this world in the next phase.

The risk of abuse from a trans person I would suggest is miniscule.
The risk of abuse from a man is considerably more.
The risk of abuse from a man exploiting a loop hole in a badly designed law that allows them unrestricted access to a female safe space is not a risk I would be willing to allow to happen to any woman.

And that is the travesty of the whole situation.
By not accepting that there are bad faith actors out there the abusers are being lumped in with trans people and creating a stigma around trans people.

Equalities legislation allows discrimination. You don't have to create a perfect society. Plenty of examples of effective discrimination being tolerated. If you want to be a fire fighter, the requirement to physically be able to lift a dead-weight fully grown adult onto your shoulders and carry them and you safely down a tall ladder will ultimately skew the role towards men. If reasonable adjustments cannot be made, they don't have to be made. An example might be disabled access in an old building.

I find the positive bias in the workplace really badly reported though and also become politically charged. Alot of what I read form those outraged about it online does not reflect the reality. There are some cases where DEI is used to even up the the end of the process, but in the vast majority of examples I see, encouragement of the opportunity and making it clear that people are an equal opportunity employer is not the same as outcome.

Given the civil rights act was only signed in the 60s in America and the Ban on being gay in this country was lifted in 67, its not like this stuff has moved that quickly in reality.

I’m angry about the whole thing, it’s cruel, an entire community is being punished on a hypothetical.

It’s made the world a more dangerous place overnight for Trans people.

We need to be better than this.

Giving trans people their own category seems the practical and fairest option.

There are genuine, legitimate questions that need to be asked and answered when it comes to trans people such as how we do integrate them fairly into sport? These are not easy debates, but they need to be had.

Agreed. Those do. But the hatred that exists for them is utterly insane. They are people. They have agency. They rarely harm anyone (not mtoe than any other group). There are so few. But the issues are being used to create a hysteria thst will only embolden the hate against them. I don't understand it. I don't like it either.

And the sports stuff. With the Algerian woman. She was a woman. Like literally a woman. And the nuts reactions from the world was crazy.
