Serious relegation fears

Despite all the expectations of an implosion, the omens appear quite favourable for Leicester...

I would like to know how many points ahead the team was

I would like to know how far ahead each team was in the above stats.. i.e. the 14 times they ended up champions were they already 10 points ahead, was the team that ended 4th only top on goal difference and level on points with 3 other teams?

I am simplifying things, but if there's teams within touching distance, ready to pounce on any mistake it does make things harder.

Somebody used to make points tables like this on here regularly, can't hurt to put one in this thread;

35. Leicester
34.
33. Arsenal
32. Emirates Marketing Project
31.
30.
29.Man United
28.
27.
26. Tottenham, Crystal Palace
25. Watford
24. West Ham, Liverpool
23. Everton, Stoke

Not one of those would have been massive gatecrashers like Leicester. We are in new territory here

Not one of those would have been massive gatecrashers like Leicester. We are in uncharted PL waters here.

The last comparably outlandish table toppers were Norwich City, back in the inaugural season of the PL.

They were 4 points clear (also of the Goons) after 16 games and remained top of the table right up until the start of April, when they lost at home to ManU and ended up finishing 3rd.

Another parallel with the 92/93 season is that the reigning champions (Leeds) also spent most of the campaign languishing in the bottom half of the table.

33: Norwich (finished 3rd on 72pts)

26: QPR (finished 5th on 63pts)
25: Emirates Marketing Project (finished 9th on 57pts), Chelsea (finished 11th on 56pts)
24: Man Utd (finished 1st on 84pts)
23: Coventry (finished 15th on 52pts)
22: Ipswich (finished 16th on 52pts), Liverpool (finished 6th on 59pts)
21: Middlesbrough (finished 21st on 44pts), Leeds (finished 17th on 51pts)

Very interesting comparison.

Norwich finished 3rd on 72 points, which would have been good enough for 4th last season, but only 5th the season before. Also, there were two extra teams in the premiership back then, so Norwich had a better opportunity to pick up points.

It will be interesting to see if there's still parallels with the 92/93 season in May, and if the 10th placed team (Saudi Sportswashing Machine) manage to win the title ;)

Guys and Girls, we are Spurs. There are two possibilities as to how this season will pan out.

1. We finish 5th with a records point total for our entire history behind a Leicester side who finish with also the highest points total they've ever had in their history. The same Leicester side go on to get relegated next season with their lowest ever points total and go out of the UCL at the qualifying stages. That season we finish 5th again behind a Chelsea side who spend 300 million in the summer on Lionel Messi and Ronaldo.

2. We finish 4th. But Juande Ramos takes over Chelsea after Christmas and wins the Champions League whilst simultaneously being relegated from the Premier League.

We all know it.

I don't think Norwich were as outlandish as Leicester, they would regularly start the season well around that time, they had a reputation as after xmas chokers in much the same way the goons have had in recent years. They were a pretty decent side back then.

In 2008/09 we were bottom after 11 rounds, yet finished in 8th. Villa had a few seasons under O'Neill where they were almost up there for much of the season, but couldn't quite last the distance. Charlton always went on holiday in April when they were doing well.

Yep. They even beat the crap out of Bayern Munich!

Was the the "you'll never win anything with kids" season, or was it the one after?

Of course historically there are numerous examples of gatecrashers winning the League, ipswich in the early 'sixtes being one of the most remarkable. And of course we did it ourselves in 1950-51 following promotion the previous year.

But those were very different times and such has been the lock-out for the last decade and more it would be nothing short of a freak for Leicester to even get CL from this point on, never mind win the bloody thing.

leicester are not winning the league, i would "lay" that at decent prices all day, up to a month ago, I was thinking top 4 was unlikely too but with so many of the big guns dropping points, they look a fair proposition to get that spot, not something I'd bet on though. Leicester have a small squad and have been fairly injury free, their schedule has been fairly kind as well.
