Serious relegation fears

Other than 87 This is genuinely the only time in my life we could have won the league

I did not expect that at any point before that start of the season - although I did expect us to have a good season and challenge for top 4

But for me id 100% like a fully focussed push on the league. Our record after Europa is poor to mixed and of that record carries on it could cost us this chance. We will possibly not get a better chance of winning the league due to the money teams throwing money at it. But we are going to get better

I'd love to win the Europa as its a good competition but not a patch on winning the league

Have we already lost it ? ;)

Bang on the money for me

You can see the problem with Europa with the way the games aren't spaced out even at Thai stage

And your right we need to focus on the positives and their are Plenty

My only negative would be if we played a weak team. We won't we will play a Team that is good enough like we did yesterday

Does the Europa move to Thailand at some stage ? ;)

On the topic of resting players / squad rotation, here's a hypothetical (or perhaps pipe dream!!?)…

Supposing we approach the final weekend of the season needing a win to secure CL via league, away to a Saudi Sportswashing Machine team who also need a result to stay up. But just a few days later we find ourselves gearing up for the Europa League final in Basel, in an arguably far more difficult game against say Dortmund, Napoli or Seville.

Which players do you prioritise for which game? Knowing a defeat in both would leave us empty handed after an entire season of promise!

i'd play the best team I could in the first one with no thought to the second, then go as strong as possible for the EL final with an emphasis on fitness

Thing is, it doesn't usually work like that. We lose to Fiorentina immediately after a defeat to Palace and all of a sudden we lose our momentum too. So we end up starting to lose in the League and pffft, we're back where we were under 'Arry a few years back, end up empty handed.

Back in the early 70s and early 80s we were often in long cup runs as well as playing 42 League games a season in those day yet we still carried on winning most of the time. Ended up winning six trophies and finishing high in the League most times, although we were never really in a race for the title iirc.

So no, let's keep the momentum going for as long as possible please.

Momentum doesn't always carry over to other competitions. See Aston Villa last season, crap in the league but reached the FA Cup final.

Villa beat two lower league sides, then exactly repeated their league form in the Cup. Beat Leicester at home in the Cup and League. Beat West Brom at home in the Cup and League. Beat Liverpool at Anfield in the League and at Wembley in the Cup. Got trashed by Arsenal like they were in the league home and away.

This scenario is horrible. I honestly don't know. It would be even worse if the game against Saudi Sportswashing Machine was for the title.

I'll have a crack though.

Saudi Sportswashing Machine

------------------Lloris--------------
Trippier Toby Vertongen Davies
----------- Dier Dembele-----------
--------Son Eriksen Chadli---------
----------------Kane-----------------

UEFA CUP FINAL

------------------Lloris--------------
Walker Toby Vertongen Rose--
----------- Dier Dembele-----------
-----------Son Alli Lamela---------
----------------Kane-----------------

Would have a lot easier had we signed anyone as cover for Kane or Dier in the transfer window..

If Saudi Sportswashing Machine need a result in their game against us, having to push to score, that'll work in our favour rather than having to deal with a team that has little incentive to be adventurous.
Prioritise the PL game knowing if we win it then there's not as much pressure on the final.

Interesting. I genuinely thought the response would be "save it for Europa Final", based on the idea that being in a European Cup Final is far more prestigious than an away tie in Saudi Sportswashing Machine for 4th or 3rd place. Shows how much the game has changed I guess that CL qualification can be deemed more important than a European trophy. o_O

For the record, I also agree with the spin the wheel approach. Wouldn't have a clue how to play this scenario out. But then that's what Poch and his team are paid to solve!
