A highlight real is purely that. He had many ineffective games with us. A typical 1 in 5 appearance. That said. He was still a good player. Mostly miss than hit. But when he did hit he gave hope he could do that every game.

Ironically, some of his best work was not highlight reel stuff, he was brilliant at winning FK's and wasting time, giving our defence a chance to rest and reset, thats what wins you football matches, he was a team player.
 
Lucas was one of those players where the numbers and consistency maybe didn’t always match the excitement, but he absolutely had value to the team. People remember the Ajax hat-trick obviously, but even outside of that he brought energy, pressing and unpredictability that defenders hated. There were definitely games where his final ball or decision making drove you mad, but he also had a knack for changing momentum when things felt flat. I think fans sometimes underrate players who aren’t silky technicians but still contribute massively to how a side functions. Looking back now, compared to some of the attacking options we’ve had since, Lucas probably deserves a bit more appreciation than he got at the time.
