Yes, absolutely.

Millwall play good football. Theyve a very well drilled team, decent at the back and play with attacking intent. Of course they dont have the money for top level players, but they do a hell of a lot with what they have.

Thanks to the fact they train together every day, bring in players unrestricted (finances excepted) to improve the side, and basically work on it 9 months of the year.

International football?

You dont have a goal scorer? Tough. You dont have a balanced squad? Tough. You want to drill your team? Ill give you a week, occasionally.

Yes, the best teams have great players and it works, but the general level of football, tactical and organisational, and at an "integrated team" level is several degrees lower than a Championship side.

And the Championship isnt all Boltons etc. Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Swansea, Wolves all came up in recent seasons playing VERY good football. Go catch a Leeds or Derby game now, Norwich too - these are teams that are playing attractive and entertaining fotoball.

I watch the championship... there are some very good teams but none make a dent in the premier league without huge investment. Hence why they drop back down again. The leap is huge. It’s why Fulham spent £100m and are still poor. That’s with the team that got them up.
As I said earlier if you want a measure of how tough the Europa can be by seeing how Burnley faltered and their better than Fulham

Comes down to how he wants to progress too. Under a top coach like Poch or under a bit of a fool IMO in Ranieri

But he isn’t gong to agitate to move

His value hasn’t gone up

And he is getting paid big money for a kid his age I’m sure

None of which has anything to do with the idea International football is a cut above.

I’d say that there are levels in both. International football you get the hand your given which I agree, but you also get the best form a country. Championship has had some bang average sides pull together results to get promoted... and then get trounced in the premier league.

When comparing sanchez and sessegnon. One shined in his first season here as a foreigner, the other so far hasn’t and looks nothing special at this level as an 18 year old inexperienced kid.
 
I think he will be a tremendous player once he gets stronger and more experienced, his decision making looks good to me. His confidence has taken a bit of a knock with his team struggling, but playing with better players and getting results will soon sort that out. He's far to expensive but that's the world we live in.

Of course there are better international teams than others, I just feel as a "level" of football it doesnt match top level domestic football.

Of which I would include the Championship.

Sanchez has been a revelation, IMO, and I dont argue - he has taken to the premiership with much greater ease than Sessegnon.

I think Sanchez, arguably, benefitted more from coming into a top level team than he did from having experience in the Europa league, but thats a "we'll never know" kind of thing.

But compare to Sessegnon who has played in a team that is desperately poor and constantly being swapped about, and I think its clearly a much greater task to actually do well (compared to coming into a settled and quality team).

Put it this way - had Sessegnon come up with Wolves I suspect he will have looked much better.

Regardless, total side track obviously (self inflicted, I know), silly money is the order of the day. So even if YOU dont think he is worth £40m or whatever - thats the ridiculous market we live with and therefore reality.

Reminds me of when united brought shaw. They paid more than he was worth for hisnpitential and he has never got near to that. Shows the gamble you take in football sometimes

I still wonder how that Sanchez fee is broken down. It still feels like a lot of money for us so I’d expect it to include a few add ins.

Whilst we continue our approach to signings we need to take more punts if we want to sign domestic talent as we will never compete when a player becomes flavour of the month given the premium on local players. We need to go in earlier to get them at the fee we would like to pay, offer a loan back and maybe a loan to sweeten the deal. A player with his head screwed on should see us as a great opportunity to develop and if not they are welcome to become the new Jack Rodwell.

Do we think Sessegnon will have increased or decreased in value since playing in the Prem? Obviously it’s a higher level and a tremendous achievement to play regularly at his age but there doesn’t seem to be the same fanfare as when he was in the Championship?

Unless you 'know the player' to speak to and can assess him mentally and physically, we are guessing.

Sissoko has proved how difficult it is when assessing any player.

Sessegnon £35m atm
Sessegnon + Pochettino £??. But Poch might not like him, character wise or whatever, who knows.
Taking a punt is all well and good but we are not in the "punt" market atm IMO.

Depends how you define taking a punt...

We're in a situation where signing a player that immediately strengthens our starting eleven is very difficult. We have a strong squad, several of our squad players would be regulars or even among the best players at mid table clubs.

Someone with massive potential that's good enough for our squad right now is exactly the kind of player we should be after. I don't know if you think of that as a punt or not.
