Ryan Sessegnon

He has a song, we have to keep him!

As an aside whilst he's improving, I'd like to see him be a little more direct as there are times when that will be the better option than always looking to pass. Hopefully it will come as his confidence increases.

On 27 May 2019, Sessegnon achieved the Guinness World Record for 'Fastest time to hit both football goal posts and crossbar', doing so in just 7.75 seconds.

So his finishing is brick.

I feel like we've suffered years of Sess being injured / getting back / young / timid / injured / getting back / developing confidence and understanding... so would be awful to sell him now

We've spent the time and money on this guy, now we should back him

Similar to Foyth et al, if you are willing to spend 3 years training and nurturing and hoping and fixing and explaining and coaching and improving... don't then sell.

Sess comes in, takes a few games to get set, then becomes really good, then gets injured. and the circle continues.

But have to say he was quality on Thurs vs Arsenal. One of the things that struck me as tucked Saka into bed and read him a story was he stayed strong, wasn't dominated in the strength battle. Just needs to continue that now.

Also anyone else notice:

  1. He stays so insanely wide - clearly instructed by Conte to make the pitch wide but he's literally on the touchline constantly
  2. Several games in a row he's been found as he cuts in behind, pulled the ball back to Son. Class move and couldn't belive Son didn't score vs Burnley with that

Both against Arsenal and Liverpool he's come up against very good players, perhaps not in their very best form, but still. His defending has definitely improved quite a lot. Think there was a pretty big gap in defensive ability between him and Reguilon earlier in the season, not so much now.

Definitely sticks wide, quite clearly but instruction and a clear contrast to our right hand side. Obviously fits well with Son's strengths coming inside and Davies mixing things up between overlapping and underlapping runs.

If we sign another LWB this summer it should be someone that thrives in a similar, stick wide, role.

Definitely also finding those runs and spaces. Very good to see. Still a bit conservative perhaps on when he tries to make things happen, but I'm fine with that for now at least.

Just hope these frequent injuries become a thing of the past soon enough.

Great to see him get his first PL goal for us (and close to a second with the one that was ruled out).

Don’t think he’s ever going to be the kind of player to run at his man, but that might be ok if he can keep his quality of movement, crossing and finishing high.

Surprised to see Conte take him off first, to be honest. (Maybe it was the yellow card, or maybe he just loves Perisic).

More than anything, he looked like he had some confidence! No hesitation at all with the header, and sublimely put away another chance that was called offside. Major improvement! Just pray he can stay fit for more than a couple of weeks!

Goal seemed to boost his self esteem, seemed more aggressive and vocal, hope he can kick on from here.

Something that may very well help him physically, also the kind of attitude that Conte will like I think.

Along with him talking about learning from Perisic, a strong first game with a goal. Improved his defending quite a bit last season already imo.

A lot of things looking positive for him right now.

Not always a fan of borderline dangerous tackles like the one he had on KWP, but in some ways I like to see it. He needs to develop that aggression and intensity in his game. Sometimes he'll go a bit far, that's part of the process.

Also like the determination to get the goal, both seen when he scored, but also in his comments after, thinking he should have done better earlier on.

Its hear the change that Conte is bringing from the player itself - not just words but the training environment and injection of various elements that contribute to a winning mentality.

Perhaps had Winks would have developed differently if he'd had Conte in his formative years.
