Ryan Sessegnon

Fulham wanted £45m last I saw. £25m + £5m in add ons + Onomah is pretty much right on the asking price.

The deal with Betis is €16m loan fee + €40m to purchase, which is 80% of the deal, + the remaining 20% in bonuses making €70m (*see below)

NDombele - Aulas is like Levy. He gets the price he wants. Im pretty confident in suggesting that happened here.

You can argue the detail as much as you like, but I dont think Im wrong in saying we basically met the asking prices.

Although with a little creativity in there to make it work for all parties.

According to Bill Madrid on TFC, Spanish resident been following in their press, says theyve been spot on all the way through:
So according to Marca, the financials for Lo Celso are as follows:

The loan is until 30 June 2020 and we pay €16 million. The puchase option, compulsory if we qualify for the European cup, optional if not, is a further €40 million, 80% of the total. The remaining 20% will be paid in stages, and will depend on certain targets being met. The total will therefore be around €70 million. If the targets are not met, Betis will continue to own that 20% or part thereof.

Presumably this last bit refers to them having the right to a percentage of any further sale
The thing with Levy and the prices he's paid is it is all backdropped by keeping Poch happy. Levy knows Poch is so so valuable to the club, and when you 100% don't want to jeopardise that you push the boat out.

That within itself is good business. Poch has probably season on season earned the club more than any other manager c.ould of, and probably will again, so the risk is reduced much to Levy's liking.

I agree it is harsh, he was in a mess of a side. But stats say it's true.

No doubt to your point he learned from it, and knows he needs to work hard, needs to adapt, listen (something he acknowledged in his welcome interviews).

But my original point is we get an extra season with Poch (at 19) and eliminate the risk of him having another season in a dysfunctional side

I agree that it will be interesting to see what Poch can do with him and getting him now rather than for free in a years time should be beneficial.

I think that people forget that progress isn't linear. Not ripping up the PL in his first season, isn't a failure.

Especially as he really wants to be here and is so eager to learn under Poch. As you rightly imply, that extra season could prove critical for both him and us. There are always exceptions of course but more often than not new arrivals often take a season or two to really bed in. And once they do their market value usually increases, sometimes exponentially.

In which case we will have also prevented a rival from snatching him.

Continuing with the general vibe here, very happy with the signing. There's little doubt these are the kind of moves we should be making, guess the question will be where he will be on the pitch but obviously first thing will be for him to settle in to the training and acclimatize to the new surroundings.

Sessegnon doesn't lend itself kindly to many songs though, may need the brains trust work on that one...

Sessesgon is a much as a left back as Bale was. He's best at Wing Back or attacking from the left. He's nothing like Alexander-Arnold or Robertson. In fact he's main attribute is that like Alli he has an instinctual awareness of when to move and appears at the right time. He's likely to be quiet for long periods of games and then make a telling contribution. Also like Alli I would expect him to be in the team sooner rather than later.

I don’t agree, but for the reasons that you’ve said. Bale was able to play left wing and forward because he was explosive, Sess by all accounts isn’t. He’s more instinctive.

In a more structured team that will have more of the ball, I can absolutely see him as a full back for us, picking the right moments to get forward with space in front of him to attack. I can also see him playing the Matuidi role that Poch used Rose in, but absolutely as a full back for us too.

Is it though? I mean, thats the sort of context/flavour fans add to things, but can we be sure?

Or could it be, as was widely expected, having completed the stadium, signed new sponsorship, gone deep into (and re-qualified for) the CL, that we actually have the money to spend now. That we can reap what we have been sowing?

If we know anything about Levy, I find it impossible to believe he is suddenly busting the bank to keep a manager happy (no matter how good).

It will be, IMO, because we can and because its right for the club. Simple as that, no backdrop required.

Now I dont disagree Poch is absolutely priceless, and if we are keeping him happy then thats a brilliant side effect of the business we are doing. And I am very sure the actual players we are looking at are very much ones he wants, our persistence in the pursuit of our buys suggest we REALLY wanted them and Im sure Poch was a big driver behind that.

I just dont think theres anything to the "...have to keep him happy.." angle.

I agree, Levy has looked at the progress we have made with getting the stadium finished and has always thought about not putting our future at a risk by spending huge money in seasons past. Now we are on a far more stable platform and he is able to put more money into securing players Poch needs.

Of course, but the (extra) income we have generated is all on Poch, he has exceeded Levy's targets. This has given us above and beyond the forecasted financials.

Put it this way, even if Poch doesn't need to be kept happy....Levy will keep him happy.....hes the golden goose.

I liked your quote but I think this time its both poch finding that poch is the right coach And we should bust the bank for. Look at the three new hires... Not cheap, possibly world class talents and projects for poch to stretch himself and work on. Argentinian too!

Somehow I feel more excited about us signing Sessegnon than Ndombele or Lo Celso. We have been linked with him so long for his talents. Pochettino seems to be good at improving young players. Let's see how Sessegnon will progress with us.

Stats do not show the whole picture, they can sometime be very disingenuous

While I have no doubt Levy will do what he can to help Poch do his best work and stay happy etc...

...the 'will do what he can' is very much based on Levys commitment to the club, and running it sustainably - something that will always come before any manager and their happiness
