Rodrigo Bentancur

It's perfection all round.
Why haven't the FA got involved with the physical and sexual abuse case at arsenal?
Their own fudging fans are now complaining about it ffs.
That’s a Criminal matter and outside of football
My issue is with the way Arsenal have handled it they have profited by playing a guy they know has several sexual assault cases against him
That’s a very very bad look

But I thought it had been dropped because of technical reasons?
Hate speach is a crime.
All the withdrawals from the England squad, how many played this weekend?
Where were the FA then?

The hypocritical stance of equality for all but we will pick and choose who and where we apply the rules needs called out.

It’s not footballs job to lead that educating, if players get out of school and still think like that, fudge em, they are not welcome in pro football.

That’s how football helps, zero tolerance, do something racist, career over.

That’s kicking racism out of football.

So many players in our football come from different countries and cultures which don't have the same views as we have grown up with.

Not dropped
He actually got charged last week IIRC
Seems more cases to be heard too
I think on the internationals if you pull out before game you should be banned from the next league game by default

I thought that was a totally different case. I haven't read it so probably my misunderstanding.
The way arsenal have behaved over this is disgusting, even to the changing his name on the shirt to try and skirt over it.

The rationale on that seems a bit f**ked up to me. Enzo had signed in for international duty whereas Bentancur hadn't. Enzo's offence was arguably worse so we're now just talking technicalities and optics rather than a real will to kick racism out of football.

On the offence. Bentancur was stupid and I think we should have accepted the punishment and taken the higher moral ground. I'm disappointed in the club. But I'm not sure he's a racist...honestly, I've received far more offensive stuff on WhatsApp in the name of humour.

That doesn't make what he said okay by the way.

But Bentancur was still out of the country when the offence happened. It’s a technicality I know, but I also find it a bit creepy that the FA have the power to do this when it happened on the other side of the world. I would have liked to have seen the club discipline him with either a fine, a suspension or both and show we don’t tolerate it. Appealing the ban is a bit risky I agree but we haven’t argued that he was wrong to say what he said unlike Liverpool with Suarez, it’s more the severity of the ban they are appealing.

I’ve read it was actually in his home in the UK
That not 100% clear but has been reported by a few spurs journos

On the subject of Discriminatory Actions/Stereotyping (whether conscious or unconscious), did anybody else notice that the "Away Fans Special" meal at the Etihad yesterday was "Salt Beef Bagel". Surprised the FA haven't got that as breach 116, or whatever it is at the moment

Haha. Yes I did. I took a photo as I was going to post it but then forgot. Definitely seemed like a bit of stereotyping profiling 😂

The difference is that those were actually racists. Not one single person I've spoken to thinks that what Bentancur did was anything to do with racism. Not one!
It wasn't, he was having bants with his friend and having a giggle, that was just a little miss judged. It is all about context.

The reaction to this is way over board, IMO, and highlights what an outrage society we have become.

Well of course it has to do with racism. It was racial stereotyping which is a form of racism. Whether intentional or not. (But with the caveat that there seems to be an argument now that he was being sarcastic and mocking the views of the interviewer, no idea whether that is the case).
There are degrees of everything however and I don’t think what he did was in the same category as Fernandez (and it’s disgusting that he seems to be getting away with what he sang) but whether or not Bentancur meant to be racist or intended to cause offence, it was at best unconscious racism.
