Rodrigo Bentancur

I clicked on this thinking Bents has made his way to the top of the What's New section again. I was fearing the worst.

I've never seen good news about him before

Didn't watch the end of the game, is it true he went to go down the tunnel looking a bit sorry for himself and Bergval had to bring him back to go over and clap the away fans? might just be social media flimflam but if thats true then thats another disgraceful thing from him.

I saw those claims as well, but no video.

Also saw Porro had to get Kulusevski over to the fans, and he wasn't happy doing so.

He looked good for about 3 months under Conte getting us to 4th.....I just don't see it now.

It's unfair to single him out as the whole villa team waltzed past most of our players in the build up to their 1st goal but that lazy leg whilst getting bypassed sums it up, alongside mediocre passing. It's the vibe of our midfield tbf

Second goal as well, was very Peh, the guy that scored ran past Bentancur at the 18 yard line and he let him go, cross comes in, pings about the box and Bentancur just stands there watching, no attempt to mark, cut out the ball, block or put pressure on the scorer.

Commented on the match thread but he looked very leggy from the opening minute - way off the pace. Fitness/fatigue?
May be. May also be some injuries we don't know about.

But I think part of it is also that he's not a natural 6. And another part of it that we were a bit of a mess ahead of him as well.

Contract talks begun apparently. Interesting. I thought Ange would’ve potentially looked to move him on this summer, based on all his ‘baggage’.

It looks like not…
I'm guessing Bissouma is top of the out list.

Bentancur is the better player, both in terms of ceiling and consistency (even if we only see glimpses of the pre-injury guy). Was always going to be one of the two.

I'd still prefer he isn't the dedicated DM/6 in the system, can play as part of a sitting two, but his quality is moving the ball forward as well (great run he had against Ipswich example)

Bents isn't a major problem. He's 28 in June and could get a 2-3 year extension on his current deal which only has a year left. That takes him to the age that Sonny is now as he comes to the end of his contract. In the mean time we might get a few quid in if he leaves mid-contract. I doubt we're offering him a top dollar salary either.

After all, he probably gets in our best eleven so worst case makes a very steady sub and rotation option in the future.

As for Biss, don't know what will happen. He definitely has his uses and isn't a high earner. Tactically, he doesn't seem to fit as well though. My guess is we'll pick up a few quid for him this summer and buy a replacement.

Would be nice to think that Abbott and Devine could step up.
