Roberto Soldado

Crouch was not worse than Soldado in a Spurs shirt. Soldado is the worst bar Frazier Campbell that I have seen. He is worse than Darren Bent was!!

Crouch was a very good player for us, in the PL and in the Champions League. He was a good solid striker for us. How anyone other than a lunatic could suggest that Soldado was a better striker for Spurs than Crouch, is beyond me. In fact, Crouch is in a completely different league to Soldado. It's an absolute insult to anyone's intelligence to try and argue that Soldado was better for us than Crouch, or even as good as.

Soldado belongs in the complete dunce no-hoper group that includes Rasiak, Campbell etc. Even Pavlyuchenko, Iversen, Armstrong and Rebrov were far more effective than Soldado in a Spurs shirt. Even Gary Doherty was better in front of goal.

Which one of Rasiak, Campbell and Soldado you think is worse is really pointless debating, they were all hopeless in front of goal, to the point where the easiest chance seemed to be beyond them.

There is no way Soldado is better for us than Crouch, but Crouch played with our best team in the 2000s, he was a specialist in making GKs apeear like heroes.

Only difference being the first two of those cost practically nothing; pay peanuts get monkeys sure does not apply in this case

Nobody is saying there isn't, but nobody should claim that Soldado was a better player for Spurs than Crouch without being ridiculed by the same.

you can't claim he has had more impact at Spurs yes, but discussion and opinion of whom is the better player overall is fine

Any discussion and opinion is fine, but in a Spurs shirt, Crouch is literally head and shoulders above Soldado, in all aspects of play (and height of course!). In a Spurs shirt, Soldado just looks like a lame horse waiting to be put out of his misery.

Oh, and 2 goals from open play in two years???? I think most of our defenders have better records in front of goal!

... perhaps I shouldn't panic so much but there are 12 points to play for until the window closes and whatever plan we might have for the future...well lets just say we need to get things a moving quickly. (if at all possible)
Yes, there are 12 points to play for between the season starting and the window closing. But no, you shouldn't panic. Why? Two words... "Harry Kane".

After last year's exploits, even if he ends up having a disappointing season he's nailed-on to be our starting striker for the first few games. Clearly we need more than one striker for the season (three's the minimum IMO), but thanks to Kane we probably have a few weeks breathing-room in which to get the right man at the right price.

it was 3 actually.

Wow - that does make a massive difference ;)

I honestly cannot comprehend this love fest with Soldado?? Three goals in two years! Three f***** goals coupled with schoolboy misses that make you cringe! If it were a academy player, everyone would be saying he was not up to it and demand a transfer to a club at his level - in the Championship or League One.

But in the case of Soldado, you still get posters blaming the system, the Premiership, Poch (forgetting he has been cr*p with three different managers) - anyone except Sold-a-dud himself; and asking for more time.

The only explanation I can think of is that people invested so much emotionally in the player - you only need to go back to the beginning of the thread - that admitting the guy is anything but a total and complete failure is too much...

Any chance of people calming down a little in this thread? Posting the same thing over and over in an increasingly belligerent tone is not going to convince anyone that you are right and just makes the board unpleasant to use.

The fact is that Soldado is not a bad player, you cant fault his work rate and professionalism but the fact remains that he is not suited to the Premier league. It is also a fact that he is one of the worst strikers ever to wear a Spurs shirt. Some of his misses are epic, he is marked out of the game easily and is generally anonymous(well in the games I actually saw him live last season) In the games I saw him in we might have well had 10 men on the pitch for all his contribution. Another fact is the price tag does have a huge bearing on how players are percieved. If the figures are correct we payed more for him than City did for Aguero so the expectation is massively higher.

Maltese Falcon is spot on with his post above, I am another who just does not understand why some have this "love" for him. The stats speak for themselves, how many shots does he get on target?. His runnig off the ball seems to be on a different wavelength from those around him. It will be best for the Club and him when he finally goes back to Spain

great deal if true, that'll show as profit on the books right?

no panic about starting the season with just Kane from me, not sure why we are not having equal panic over keepers as right now Vorm is our only fit senior one and that's a far more specialist position

there is more to his career than 2 years at Spurs

a leicester or Norwich fan could question the same about Kane

I take it that is said tongue in cheek. If Kane doesn't score again for 2 seasons he will still have a greater goals per game tally than Soldado and won't have cost us £20+

because we have Lloris already at the club about to come back from his injury, whereas we dont have Benzema back at the training ground making a recovery and ready to step in for Kane if needs be ;)
