Richarlison

@Bishop @metalgear I hope you can flip your opinion paradigm for two more matches because like it or not, we really, really fudging need him to make his 10 EPL goals this season 11, 12, 13...
nah my mind has been made up about him long time ago
but i am FULLY behind the team although feeling the most pessimistic now this season
if we make it and richarlison is the hero, i will still ask for him to go
otherwise we will be bottom table scrapping again next season and dezerbi is better than that

btw before solanke was injured dezerbi preferred him to richarlison.

You missed my point. Only for the next two games. You made clear what you think of him already.

On Solanke, it'd be great if he could resurrect himself and score a goal or two/assist/do something. He hasn't done much of anything this season...

Solanke has missed so much football. I can't make my mind up whether we'll see the best of him if he is part of that World Cup squad and continues to strive for that fitness / form or whether he does the natural rest / conditioning / pre-season routine. It's hard to know what path gets his mojo back. I don't think Tuchel will take him anyway. I think it's Kane, Bellingham, Rashford, Watkins that are ahead of him, C-Lewin and Toney.

there's a reason every team he plays for ends up in relegation mire. teams just cant progress the ball up the field into his feet, so end up just lumping it all over the place.

I do like the school of thought seeing the difference between not getting service and not doing anything about it yourself as a striker. There are strikers out there who will constantly be on the move to receive the ball to feet, chest or head. They're happy to take the hits from the big centre halves but never stop finding that clear line between themselves and the man who has the ball. They work on the basis that every pass can be to them as the outlet. It's especially prevalent in this modern PL where physicality is everything. It's sort of why Harry went from being my favourite ever striker to one that I was happy to call out on match days in many key moments. Don't blame him for leaving the PL. As a 27 year old he stopped really doing that early career stuff. The injuries perhaps took their toll and H was scared to take the hits that these big centre halves give you. He started deliberately jumping early and slightly ahead of what is optimal position. He was often on the way back down and a yard in front of the defender as they headed it away easy. He also wasn't on the move any more where he could relieve the pressure on his team mates. That wasn't the Harry I fell in love with from his early career. He had everything apart from perhaps express pace and especially the ability to give as good as he got from the centre halves. Even with the pace thing he hired a sprint coach to optimise what he had. I always respected him for that.

With Richi, he hasn't got an ounce of that first touch ability H had with any part of his body unfortunately. Prime Dom is much closer at playing with his back to goal and feeding others in. However, it's Hobson's choice at this point. Either the team setup has to compromise to Richi in the way we did with H. Alternatively, we have to get Richi to play to the team setup and accept the compromise. The latter is the answer as you would never build a setup around a player like Richi. He's just not at that level. So Richi will accommodate RDZ's tactics as much as he can and it will continue to look clumsy. The good news is that nobody is surprised when Richi, Tel or Muani score. I now believe one of them will score every single game. Kudus to RDZ for that.

It will be interesting how much more physical Lanks has got on his return to the club. He does sort of have that thick set build that we had with Harry. You never know.
I would not attempt to build around either of Solanke or Richy. They are frankly not to the standard that supports this nor are they likely to actually score or perform to a level to justify that level of support.

The wise course of action is to just accept the truth that is clear to all of our eyes. Ideally I would clear them both out in the summer and start afresh, I kind of don't think we can get worse than what we have currently. Neither player should be starting for us period. As a cheaper backup option maybe one of them has a role, and I'd be more inclined for Solanke in that regard due to his more dependable touch and better link play but man let's just be real with ourselves we can see neither are up to par and again I'll keep saying it, we should not be accepting of mediocrity or making excuses for it because all that does is bring down our level and expectations and you end up with what we have now.

We cannot afford to clear them both out. We have several areas in need of upgrading. I'd say one has to stay for squad purposes.
As for medicority and settling for it, I wish we'd considered that when we decided to change managers last season...that's the decision which might've seen us not be where we are now. Like it or not, DeZerbi's got a run of results from this lot which would (if replicated across a season) have us battling for top 3! (n.b. I am NOT saying we don't need a few upgrades, just stating that the biggest loss this season aside from injuroies was having that manager!)...

I would happily sell them for £40M and spend big money on a Centre Forward with Tel & Lankshear as the backups.
